It was the only birthday present Jacksboro softball coach John Bennett wanted. Bennett celebrated his birthday with a bi-district Game 1 win Thursday, April 25 over Peaster, 11-6.

With a district championship on the line, Jacksboro’s varsity baseball team gave Holliday all it wanted Friday, April 26 but the Eagles broke a 2-all tie in the bottom of the seventh, capitalizing on miscues in a 3-2 victory over Jacksboro.

Each week, the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette will recognize one athlete from each Jack County school as the Herald’s Athletes of the Week. The Herald’s Athletes of the Week are Jaxson Hubble, of Jacksboro, Ty McComack, of Bryson, and Aidan Gill, of Perrin.

8-2 in District 7-3A with Jacksboro went to a 12-5 win Tuesday, April 16 over visiting City View. The Tigers fell behind 1-0 in the _rst before the Tigers struck for three runs in the bottom of the for good.

In its home finale, Bryson’s baseball team got out to a quick start and used solid pitching to defeat Huckabay, 121, in five innings Thursday, April 18.

Pitchers Garrett Pennington and Evan Ford struck out eight batters combined and held the Indians to just one hit.

Bryson coach Justin Ramirez said the solid start was not like his team.

“Us able to come out like we did and start strong was great,” Ramirez said. “We’ve been a middle inning team, so that was nice.”
