Good pitcher’s duels are few and far between in District 7-3A with every team seemingly able to unleash offense at any moment.

Tuesday’s game between Jacksboro and visiting Wichita Falls City View was such a contest, the Mustangs leading most of the way against the young Tigers. Jacksboro was able to unleash some offense in breaking a 2-all tie with a four-run sixth enroute to a 6-2 victory.

The hosts won their second straight to go to 2-1 in District 7-3A. Tiger Coach Blake Belcher praised his starting pitcher Josh Pierce for throwing five innings of three hit ball. Freshman Lando Belcher faced the minimum six batters over the final two innings, striking out the side in the sixth on his way to fanning four.

Jacksboro drew first blood with a first-inning run. City View came back in the second, using a hit and a Tiger error to take a 2-1 lead. Both sides went down in order in the third and fourth innings as Pierce and Jackson York did battle.

City View threatened in its fifth as catcher Tyler Wilson stroked a two-out single. Pierce got York to ground back to him to end the threat.

The Tigers tied the game in the fifth. Peyton Kinman had a bunt single with Kasey Ray Swan reaching on a fielder’s choice. Christian Wiggins’ single then loaded the sacks. A walk to Cody Frie plated Kinman but the next two hitters were retired.

In the decisive sixth, Pierce and Belcher both walked while Kaleem Howard laid down a bunt that was thrown away by the pitcher trying to get Pierce at third. Pierce scored to break the tie while Kinman’s sacrifice plated Belcher for a 4-2 lead.

A third baseman’s miscue plated Howard and brought Swan aboard. Wiggins reached second on a third baseman’s error with a walk to Frie loading the bases. A wild pitch plated Swan and ended the scoring as a strikeout ended the threat.
