Big innings continue as Jacksboro SB stays perfect

Wed, 03/24/2021 - 5:00 am

While a 5-run inning may seem ordinary, it was huge in the scheme of things to Jacksboro’s varsity softballers March 16.

The big inning has become customary over the last two games to the Tigerettes, who remained perfect in District 7-3A play with a 6-2 victory over City View at Tigerette Field. Jacksboro is now 3-0 in the loop with the visiting Lady Mustangs going to 1-2.

A five-run fourth inning for the hostesses gave Tigerette senior Alex Holman some breathing room in the pitching circle. Holman scattered five hits while striking out nine in the complete game win.

Jacksboro picked up a first-inning run as Hadlee Richardson opened with a walk, stole second, moved to third on a Holman infield single and scored on a wild pitch. The five-run frame opened with Rylee Mathis opening with a sharp single to left while Jaci Gann was hit by a pitch.

Destiny Valles laid down a bunt that was thrown away by the pitcher trying to retire Mathis at third. Both runners scored for a 3-0 lead with Valles at second. A shortstop’s error allowed pinch runner Makenna McAnear to score and Teagan Reynolds to get aboard.

Avery Bennett beat out a one out infield single. Kylie Tullous’ single brought home Reynolds while Bennett came home on the double steal to end the scoring.

City View picked up both of its runs in the seventh with a pair of its five hits, both runs scoring on Carly Dawkins’ single. She was stranded as Ariel Nader was tagged out on a grounder to second to end the 97-minute affair.

After a pair at home, Jacksboro hit the road Tuesday for Nocona. Results were not available as of press time.
