Tigers beat S&S

PONDER – Most fans would take Jacksboro leading 14-0 at halftime Friday night vs. S and S Consolidated, where the Rams were held to 122 yards, as pretty good.

The best was yet to come, however.

Knowing it could do better, the Tiger defense allowed a mere 72 yards in the final two quarters while the offense added three scores, including a special teams one in a 30-0 Class 3A bi-district win at Ponder Field. Jacksboro (10-1) will face Harmony (11-0) Friday at 7 at Ron Poe Stadium in McKinney in the Division II area round with the Rams ending at 6-5.

Tigerettes win home opener over Graham

Before the season, Jacksboro Girls BB Coach Todd Matlock said he hoped to expand his squad’s prowess from the outside this campaign.

Following the squad’s 43-38 win over visiting Graham Saturday evening, there’s still some work to be done in that regard.

Jacksboro (1-1) was just 1-11 from beyond the arc vs. the Lady Blues, junior Trinity Tisdale doing the honors.

Bryson VB loses in regional semis

SAN ANGELO – On an evening where they needed to play their best, Bryson’s volleyball team seemed out of sorts vs. Blum in the Region II-A Tournament semifinals. The Lady Cats took advantage and ended the Cowgirls season with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-21 win at Central High’s Didrickson Gym.

The Cowgirls ended their season at 24-20. Blum had its season ended one day later with a straight set loss to top-ranked Tioga, which moves on to the State Tournament in Garland this week.

Bryson FB opens playoffs with Gorman

BRYSON - It took three years of hard work but the Cowboys look like they may be ready to make a run through the Class A corral in 2017.

After a pair of first-round losses in the past two years, Bryson wants to extend its drive in the postseason and Coach Jason Briles says this might be the year for two reasons. One being the district championship the squad picked up by sweeping through District 12-A. Second being a tough non-district slate which included losses to Milford and defending state champ and top-ranked Borden County.

Tigers open postseason

Sometimes a loss can be a learning experience.

Jacksboro had an opportunity to become District 5-3A Division II Champs Friday night but a tough road loss in Holliday thwarted the chance. Coach Brannon Rodgers said he was proud of the way his troops battled throughout the game.

“The kids battled well but now we know the kids can battle if they get into a game like this in the playoffs,” Rodgers said. “If they play like we did vs. Holliday, we’re going to be fine.”

Tigerettes beat WF Rider

DALLAS – Bright lights. Big city. No problem.

With the bright lights of the American Airlines Center above them, Jacksboro’s girls' basketball team had something to prove Tuesday afternoon vs. Class 5A Wichita Falls Rider. After the boys' basketball team had won their first-ever appearance at the venue two years ago, the girls couldn’t be bested by their male counterparts.

Tigers fall to Holliday, 25-21

If one 100-yard rusher is good then two are better.

In a district championship battle worthy of the term, Jacksboro took a 14-3 halftime lead and made it stick until midway through the fourth quarter when a long Justin Jones run put him over the 100-yard mark for the game and lifted the Eagles to a 25-21 victory.

Both teams are now 9-1 but with the win, Holliday goes into the postseason as the top seed out of District 5-3A Division II with the Tigers dropping down to No. 2. Jacksboro will face S&S Consolidated Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Ponder.

Pee Wee squad wins Top of Texas title

Jacksboro’s Pee Wee football team was two minutes away from losing to Henrietta for the second time this season Saturday, this time being in the Top of Texas Championship.

On its homefield, however, the Tigers were able to take advantage of a Cub mistake to force overtime. In the second extra session, the hosts got a touchdown and used another critical Cub mistake and solid defense down the stretch in a 14-8 victory at Tiger Stadium.

Both teams end the year at 9-1, each beating the other for the lone setback of the season.
