BOWIE – After a tough loss, a slow start in the next game can be expected.

Such was the case Friday night here, as district -leading Jacksboro’s softballers had a rough first pair of innings with the young Lady Rabbits, who kept things tied at six after two frames.

A 15-run third for the visitors was all she wrote as the Purple opened the second round of District 7-3A play with a 21-6 victory.

Jacksboro is 6-1 in the loop and 21-5 overall.

The aforementioned inning opened with Destany Valles drawing a leadoff walk and moving to third on a one-out infield single by Makenna McAnear. Both came home as pitcher Avery Bennett fly to center was misjudged for an 8-6 lead.

Haldee Richardson walked and stole second. Freshman Kylie Tullous singled home Bennett while Alex Holman brought home two more runs with a single and advanced on a shortstop’s throwing error.

Teagan Reynolds loaded the bases with a bunt single before a Valles single, a walk to Gann and a two-run double by McAnear upped the lead to 15-6. Bennett was hit by a pitch while a sac fly from Richardson put the lead into double figures. A pair of errors and RBI singles from Holman and Reynolds accounted for the rest of the scoring.

Bennett then set the side down in order with two strikeouts to end the 90-minute game on mercy rule.

Jacksboro got out to a 2-0 lead after one. On RBI hits from Holman and Rylee Mathis but the Lady Rabbits used four hits and an error to go up 4-2 after one.

The Tigerettes got the four runs back in the second, opening with a one-out double which one-hopped the centerfield wall by McAnear. She scored on a Bennett single. Courtesy runner Charlie Phariss made it to third before Richardson walked and advanced to second. Tullous then ripped an inside-the-park homer for a 6-4 lead. A Mathis double was stranded as outs were sandwiched around it.

The Tigerettes played at City View Tuesday and hosted Nocona Friday. No results were available as of press time.
