Boys XC ends year at regionals

Jacksboro’s cross country team saw their season end with a run at the Region I-3A Meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock Monday afternoon.

Jacksboro finished 14th as a team. The top four teams and top 10 individuals automatically qualify for State in Round Rock Nov. 4.

Junior Hoyt Nebgen led the Tigers with a 79th place finish with a time of 19:03. Javier Palomar was 95th with a 19:36 run over the three-mile course. Daylon Valles was 103rd with a time of 19:48.

Bryson cages Bobcats, 70-16, for Homecoming

BRYSON – To win a district title in recent years in District 12-A, the trek must go through Newcastle, which had won seven straight district titles.

That streak appears to be ending, as the Bobcats have lost their first two district games, including a 70-16 setback to Bryson during Homecoming night Oct. 20. Bryson is unbeaten in district at 2-0 (6-2 overall).

The Cowboys jumped out to a 32-8 lead after one and extended it in the second quarter with the game being called at halftime because of the 45-point mercy rule.

Tigers to face 'surprising' Millsap

Looking atop the District 5-3A Division II hill, Jacksboro is in a bit of an unfamiliar (but pleasant) situation.

The last two years, the Tigers had started the loop ledger at 0-2 and fighting to reach the top. This year, Jacksboro has posted impressive wins over its first two district foes, outscoring Henrietta and Nocona by a combined 75-36.

Coach Brannon Rodgers said after watching the film from the Nocona game there were definitely some things to improve on.

Tigers beat Nocona, 38-14

Luke Dixon is known for his baseball prowess, the shortstop receiving several accolades during the last baseball season.

So far this year, he has been coming around on the football field as well on both sides of the ball. Dixon had a solid start and finish Friday night, opening the scoring on the first play from scrimmage and coming through with a pair of second-half interceptions to help Jacksboro stay unbeaten for the campaign with a 38-14 win over visiting Nocona at Tiger Stadium.

VB falls to Lady Indians in four

NOCONA – In honor of its Indian namesake, a large arrow going into the ground is displayed prominently near the parking lot at Nocona High.

That arrow is similar to the one that the Lady Indians put through the collective heart of Jacksboro’s volleyball team Tuesday night, the hostesses gaining the season sweep over the Tigerettes with a 16-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 win. Nocona is 6-6 and Jacksboro 5-7 in District 8-3A action and in sole possession of the fourth and final playoff spot.

Jacksboro boys ready for Nocona

One step down, four more to take.

After a convincing win in its District 5-3A Division II opener last Friday, Jacksboro is looking to take the next step toward a district title Friday night when Nocona pays a visit to Tiger Stadium. The Indians (5-1, 0-1) are coming off a 56-14 loss to Holliday.

Jacksboro Coach Brannon Rodgers said the loss is not indicative of the team Nocona truly is.

JMS boys open district

Jacksboro Middle School’s football teams opened district here Oct. 12.

The seventh grade remained unbeaten at 3-0-1 with a 38-0 win over the ‘Cats to go to 3-0-1 for the year.

We had our best offensive production on the season,” Coach Brian Davenport said. “We had eight different Tigers score, but it could not have happened without the blocking up front by Saul Jimenez, Christian Mott, Andrew Olivarez, Jackson Musick, and Joseph Dunn.”

Bryson FB wins, 70-0

BOWIE – Bryson opened District 12-A play Oct. 13 with a convincing 70-0 win over Gold-Burg, winning its third straight game to go to 5-2 overall.

Bryson scored 34 first-quarter points and added 36 in the second. The Cowboys put up just over 300 yards in the half before the game was called because of the mercy rule.

Quarterback Braden Houser was 7-9 for 90 yards passing and four TDs. Ethan Robinson had two catches for 32 yards, both touchdowns. Tristan Stephens had three grabs for 41 yards, one for a touchdown. Paul Davidson had two grabs for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Tiger XC heads to Regionals

Jacksboro’s boys cross country team qualified for the Region I-3A Meet Oct. 23 by virtue of a third-place finish at the District 8-3A Meet Oct. 12 in Boyd.

Javier Palomar led the Tigers with a 7th-place finish, Hoyt Nebgen was 16th with Jose Palomar right behind in 17th. Freshman Drew Bright was 20th, Daylon Valles was 25th with Randall Hamilton right behind in 26th and Zach Sharp in 39th.
