Going to be the road’s friend

Brian’s Babblings

It’s always busy on the road. This is the time of year it gets alot busier.

With schools going to this, that, and the other thing in different academic and athletic events the next six weeks or so, this is just a reminder that whenever you’re driving be careful of who or what is around you.

I was reminded of this on my way to Bowie for a twin bill Friday. Started out just like any other day except my wife hit the road with me, saying she needed a break from her job and she could work over the weekend.

We were cruising around for the first two-thirds of the trip but the last 22 miles or so were a bit of a nightmare. In Decatur, we made our turn from FM 51 onto the US 287 service road. At the Business 380 light before it becomes the road, some jerk in his massive white truck from the bowels of hell decided to come over out of the left turn lane and moved me onto the shoulder.

He then flipped me off as if I was the one with the problem and was gone in the blink of an eye. This was the lesser of two evils heading to the games.

About 20 miles further up the road heading into Bowie, we’re getting off the highway and another driver decides they needed the one exit lane more than I did, coming over from the left lane and arriving within milliseconds of me.

My wife has decided that was her last road trip with me to see a game, as she thought she brought me bad luck, even though we picked up a clean split of the hosts (see stories, this section). I told her I like having her around but I don’t think it did much good, even though the trip home was uneventful.

Still planning on seeing plenty of road this school year as regional track, baseball, softball and plenty more will dominate. I’m just glad I’m able to have a tremendous job that I enjoy.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, there aren’t a whole lot of folks that can say that.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
