Bryson defeats Moran, 42-14

MORAN – Bryson’s first true road trip of the year was a successful one as the Cowboys traveled here and posted a convincing 42-14 win over the hosts.

Bryson improves its record to 3-0.

Cowboys Coach Jason Briles said he’ll take the win but realizes his team left a lot to be desired.

“(Our offense was sloppy) with five turnovers,” Briles said. “We left 30-plus points off the board but our defense played outstanding under Coach Hunter Hayes.”

Tiger 'D' leads to victory

Ask new Jacksboro defensive coordinator John Bennett if he saw his defense being as good as it has been in the first three games, including a 21-6 victory over Paradise Sept. 9, and he’ll tell you it’s been a work in progress for nearly a year.

“I wanted to build the defense around speed and good tackling,” Bennett said. “Running track workouts and agility training was a great tool to help us increase our speed in the offseason.”

The Tiger defense has allowed 26 points in three games so far.

VB evens district mark at 1-1

WICHITA FALLS – “Is it better to start or finish strong?”

The eternal question received another answer Tuesday night. Jacksboro’s varsity volleyballers, coming off a disappointing district opener in Henrietta Sept. 9, fell behind two-games-to-none against a much improved City View. The Tigerettes looked out of sorts early on in losing 22-25 and 10-25.

With the real possibility of being 0-2 in District 8-3A staring the Purple in the face, the young squad began to turn things around midway through the match with convincing wins in games three and four.

Tigers 'light the V' and remain unbeaten

Jacksboro had a triumphant return home Friday evening, allowing just six points and 182 yards total offense in a 21-6 win over Paradise.

Jacksboro is now 3-0 with the visiting Panthers falling to 1-2.

The Tigers picked up all the points they’d need to start the game, marching 69 yards in 12 plays, capped off by a five-yard Hunter Jackson run. The junior bounced off a number of would-be tacklers before finding paydirt. Santiago Salazar’s extra point gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead.

Cowgirls raid Pirates' ship

PERRIN – Bryson was under the impression it was playing its district opener Tuesday night vs. the Pirates here. Because of a scheduling mistake, the match between the two Jack County foes was played as a non-district affair instead with the visiting Cowgirls posting a 25-12, 25-21, 25-10 victory.

District will now commence for both schools Saturday with Bryson traveling to Graford and Perrin playing at Chico.

Perrin corrals Buffs

PERRIN – It was a loss to Cross Plains in the season finale last year which kept the Pirates out of the postseason. It’s a new year, new players, coaches ... and a new result as Perrin hosted their former district rival Sept. 2.

Perrin avenged the loss to the Buffs from a year ago with a 22-16 win at Pirate Stadium.

Perrin is 2-0 for the season.

Bryson knocks off WFND

BRYSON – After an easy win in week 1, you couldn’t blame Bryson for having some nerves in their home opener vs. No.3- in TAPPS Division II Wichita Falls Notre Dame Sept. 2.

Heading into the game, however, Coach Jason Briles said his troops were about five games ahead of this time last year. Any nerves quickly went by the waste side as the Cowboys took control and easily handled the Knights, 69-24.

Bryson is now 2-0 for the campaign, equalling its win total from two years ago.

Jacksboro roars home unbeaten

Ke’Ondrae Sadler wasn’t on the original Jacksboro varsity roster, coaches feeling he could get his playing time on the JV.

Sadler continued fighting his way in practice and showing he belonged on varsity. His hard work prevailed as he was a late addition to the roster and saw special teams action in the opener vs. Olney.

He continues to show his talent, coming through with a touchdown and a last minute interception which secured the Tigers’ 21-14 win over Windthorst last Friday. Tiger Coach Brian Hodnett says Sadler has stepped up and earned his spot on the varsity.

Tigers roar to 2-0

WINDTHORST – In a much different game than a week ago, Jacksboro got out to a quick lead but watched Windthorst tie the contest late in the third. A fourth quarter score gave Jacksboro back the lead and a pair of late interceptions sealed the deal in a 21-14 Tiger win Friday evening.

The Tigers are 2-0 and Windthorst falls to 0-2.

Michael Harp’s 64-yard first quarter run set up his four-yard scoring run later in the drive. Fumble recoveries by Zach Hamm and Hunter Drennan and a Luke Dixon interception kept the hosts off the board.

Perrin wins 1st for Merrett

PERRIN – All coaches want to start their careers on a positive note.

Joe Merrett did that here Friday night, the new Perrin Coach getting a solid night from his charges en route to a 34-18 win over visiting Chico. Merrett was extremely pleased with the work of his players in the face of recent adversity.
