Bryson ISD approves 2023-24 academic calendar

Changes were made to give teachers more time off in the 2023-24 Bryson ISD calendar approved by the board during the Monday, April 24 meeting. The district will have a 181-day school calendar instead of the normal 10 month, 187-day, calendar, BISD Superintendent Greg London told the board.

Sewer line bid approved

After years of discussion, the elevated sewer line project near Sewell Park is one step closer to getting started. Jacksboro aldermen approved the bid of Underwood Construction of Bonham for the work as part of their Monday, April 24 meeting.

Mental health report reviewed

Jack and Young County continue to be “ahead of the curve” as far as mental health training for law enforcement and wanting to get better goes. Officials from both counties have been meeting for the last two months on combining forces to make a more streamlined system with dealing with those with mental health issues.

Candidates for two Jacksboro Independent School District positions had a chance to talk about why they’re running for school board during a candidate forum April 19. Incumbent Travis Jonas is being challenged in Place 1 by Bart Gavit with LeAnn Johnson running unopposed in Place 2.

Last bond issue meeting held

Jacksboro ISD Superintendent Brad Burnett hosted the final bond issue town hall meeting Wednesday, April 19 at the Jacksboro Middle School Auditorium. The district is asking voters in a May 6 election for $47.5 million for renovations at all three schools including new bathrooms at Jacksboro Elementary School, reconfiguring JMS by tearing down non load bearing walls in the round building and increasing classroom size.

JMS 7th grade track competes at district

Jacksboro Middle School 7th grade boys and girls competed in their district track meet last week. 7th grade boys The squad as a whole finished 3rd behind Henrietta and Vernon.

LTRC provides update

Case workers with the Long Term Recovery Committee gave an update on the numbers of people being assisted during their Thursday, April 13 meeting. Twenty-six homes were destroyed with 15 needing to be rebuilt right now.
