FCH to use water dispensers throughout facility

In an attempt to cut waste and plastic use, Faith Community Hospital System will be rolling out new filtered water fountain dispensers throughout the FCH facility.

”The amount of plastic water bottles used throughout our health system is pretty remarkable,” Frank Beaman CEO of FCHS explained in a press release. “Without convenient access to recycling, trying to collect used plastic water bottles is not economically feasible.”

An estimated 80 percent of plastic water bottles end up in landfills, each one can take upwards of 1,000 years to break down. Bottled water is expensive, Beaman stating consuming the recommended water each day would have to spend $1800 a year, which is 26 times more than filtered pitcher water and 3,675 times more than tap water.

Bottled water will still be available at FCH for patients and guests as well as for sale at the Faith Cafe.

ER Manager Courtney Curtner said it best when presented with the net initiative “We have Faith in Our Community and now are putting Faith in our environment.”

Off-campus facilities in Bowie and Alvord are exempt as FCHS hasn’t had time to install water dispensers at those locations. Beaman said plans are in the works together those facilities as part of the program soon.”
