‘Live like Johnny’ organization explained to Lions Club

Kerri LeDoux wanted a way to remember her son Johnny, who passed away Nov. 26, 2016.

She admitted the Live Like Johnny organization, which she spoke about at the Sept. 23 Jacksboro Lions Club meeting, was not the first thing she had thought of but it has blossomed in the three-plus years of its forming.

“I remember him being here talking about his project,” Callan said. “I just wanted a way to remember him and this seemed like a great way.”

LeDoux talked about the three programs of the organization:

Mentor Experience

The purpose of this is to connect middle school students are are often left out, ignored and neglected with qualified and effective mentors who engage this students in activities to help them grow confidence in their ability to succeed to see potential that they all have. A pathway to develop their life perspectives, overcome obstacles and building on their strengths to make positive choices and develop essential school and life skills.

Through this program, Johnny’s legacy too change lives of students by inspiring positivity in their lives and giving them a chance to learn and lead.

Jackets from Johnny

Johnny was an enthusiastic FFA member who wanted everyone to be a part of the organization. His organization wants to give the gift of the legendary blue jacket to those who may not be able to afford it. It is one of the top goals of the organization to use as a many kids that desire to wear this jacket can by being nominated.

“(The program) helps create a level playing field for kids who may not have it,” LeDoux explained. “So far we have been able to give 28 kids an FFA jacket.”

Farm Equipment brand Kubota is taking the program nationwide to help even more students who want to “Live Like Johnny” and continue his legacy.

Scholarships

LeDoux said the organization has a desire in investing in young adults who have a desire to fur ther their education after graduation but not the means to do so. Graduating students of Jacksboro High School are given the opportunity to apply for a one-time scholarship, to assist in the next steps of their education journey.

Much of what the organization uses for funds is raised during its annual Gala.

Because of COVID, this year’s Gala went viral and had a lot of wonderful prizes including a utility trailer, BBQ pits, wind baskets and many more, LeDoux said.
