Henrietta boys ends first round with 8-2 win over Jacksboro

Wed, 04/07/2021 - 5:00 am

HENRIETTA – Errors in non-district games really don’t matter much as there’s time to fix the mistake before the games that matter begin.

When those same mistakes rear their ugly head once district starts, it’s an entirely different story.

Jacksboro had the same number of hits (four) as errors Tuesday night here which enabled the host Bearcats to pull away early and post an 8-2 win. The Tigers are 3-3 in District 7-3A, having lost their last two.

Henrietta used a single by pitcher Baron Brown to get the hosts on the board in the first. The Bearcats took advantage of a second baseman’s miscue to plate two second inning runs for a 3-0 cushion.

Jacksboro made things interesting with a two-run second. A two-out rally commenced with Peyton Kinman stroking a single to right. Kasey Ray Swan drew a walk.

Christian Wiggins beat out an infield single, an error on the pitcher to retire Wiggins was off the mark and allowed Kinman to score. A wild pitch brought home pinch runner Baylor Laake before a groundout ended the threat.

Henrietta got the runs back and then some with a three-run, one error fourth inning and a two-run, two error fifth. Jacksboro threatened in the fourth with pitcher Landon Belcher aiding his cause with a single and moving to third on sacrifices by Jackson McComis and Aaron Harmonson but a groundout ended the threat.

In the Tiger sixth, senior Taber Dunn had a pinch hit double but got caught in a rundown.

Jacksboro hosted Holiday Tuesday evening to open the second round of district play. No results were available as of press time.
