Tigerettes move into Area round

ALEDO – Jacksboro and Eastland hooked up in a battle royale Monday evening in a bi-district girls basketball matchup. Backed by a boisterous student section and a raucous crowd of supporters, the second seed Tigerettes out of District 8-3A overcame a fourth quarter deficit and pulled away from the third seed out of District 7-3A Lady Mavs in a 42-36 win at Bearcat Gym.

Jacksboro is now 28-6 overall while Eastland ends its campaign at 20-10. 

The Tigerettes will have a rematch with No-5 Tuscola Jim Ned Friday night at 7 in Dublin. Jim Ned won the first encounter 47-26.

Jacksboro, Bryson playoff games announced

Two playoff games have been announced as Jack County girls teams prepare for the postseason.

Jacksboro’s Tigerettes will take a 27-6 ledger as the 2nd-place team in District 8-3A to face Eastland, the 3rd-place team in District 7-3A. The bi-district matchup is set for 7 p.m. Monday in Aledo.

Bryson, the third place team in District 17-A,  will face Lipan out of 18-A, Monday at 6 p.m. in Perrin.

Girls crush Boyd, boys lose in OT

BOYD –  A tough split was garnered by Jacksboro’s boys and girls basketball teams Friday here, the girls posting a 62-27 win over the Lady ‘Jackets while the boys suffered a 66-61 overtime setback.

Jacksboro girls 62, Boyd 27

The visitors never let Boyd in the game, leading by 10 after one quarter and coasting from there. 

Jacksboro is now 11-2 and 26-6 overall with the Lady ‘Jackets slipping to 3-10 in the loop.

Gary signs with West Texas A&M

Jacksboro senior Cody Gary signed a national letter of intent to play football for West Texxas A&M during a ceremony Monday morning.

Gary, the District 8-3A Defensive MVP, was surrounded by family members and teammates as he finished signing his letter of intent. Jacksboro AD and Head Football Coach Brian Hodnett said the actual letter of intent was signed Feb. 1, but his parents were out of town for the ceremony.

JMS 8 boys win Windthorst Tourney

WINDTHORST – Jacksboro’s 8th grade ‘A’ boys basketball squad took top honors in a tournament here Saturday.

The Tigers, now 8-4 overall, opened with a 37-19 win over Petrolia, Jacksboro used a press for some easy baskets early to jump out to a 13-4 lead. Each team scored six second quarter points for a 19-10 lead at the half. 

Jacksboro shutout Petrolia in the third while scoring eight third quarter points before outscoring the Pirastes 10-9 in the fourth. De’Treyvion Tate had 15 points with Landon Davenport adding 11, Jordan Yount added six points and Dylan Thomas five.

Bryson wins at home, falls on road

BRYSON ­– The Cowboys appear in the thick of the playoff hunt after a big win to close the first round of district play Friday evening.

Bryson came out with a 41-31 win over visiting Paint Creek. The visitors led 8-7 after one before Bryson outscored the visitores 12-7 in the second for a 19-15 lead at the half. 

Bryson’s defense allowed just four points while scoring 10 for a 31-19 advantage heading into the fourth.

Paul Davidson notched a double double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Braden Houser was also in double figures with 10 points.

JMS 8 boys continue district play

Jacksboro Middle School’s 8th grade boys hoop squads faced Henrietta and Paradise on the road recently with good results.

Against Henrietta Jan. 16, the ‘A’ team posted a 29-21 win. Jacksboro led 7-5 after one and 15-7 at the half. Each team scored 14 points in the second half to move the young Tigers to 4-3 in district and 5-4 overall.

Landon Davenport had 10 points to lead the Purple with De’Treyvion Tate adding eight. Edwin Salazar contributed four, Jordan Yount three while Dylan Thomas and Daylon Valles two each.

JMS 8 girls win in Windthorst

WINDTHORST – For the second consecutive weekend, JMS 8 ‘A’ girls won a tournament, taking top honors here Saturday.

In the semis vs. Petrolia, the girls posted a 50-15 win. The girls led 19-5 after one and extended their lead to 29-5 at the half and 39-10 after three.

Alex Holman had 19 points and Jordan Pruitt another 17. Rhett Rollans had six points with Hadlee Richardson, Abby Mangum, Jaci Gann and Makenna McAnear having two each. Harlee Richardson contributed three rebounds, two steals and two assists.
