When an opponent has just three buckets in a half, it is best to take advantage of an opportunity knocking.
Jacksboro did just that Friday night as visiting Tolar had a cold half shooting. That, along with trying to respond from a disappointing finish at Paradise the game before and a teammate being hurt in pregame warmups, provided the Tigers all the incentive it needed to cruise to a harder than it looked 74-58 win at Tiger Gym.
Jacksboro goes to 1-2 in District 7-3A and 7-6 overall while Tolar slips to 0-3 and 11-11.
Tiger Coach Aaron Bass was pleased with the fire and grit his players showed throughout the game.
“We spent the last couple days getting refocused after what we thought was a thrown away opportunity (at Paradise, where the squad led going into the fourth and suffered a double-digit loss),” Bass offered. “The first half we played defense well. We got into some foul trouble in the second half and had some guys foul out which hurt.”
Junior guard Rylan Chalmers was injured during warmups. His condition was unknown at press time. Seeing his teammates rally around their fallen friend was heartwarming to the third-year coach.
