PEASTER – With the Christmas season upon us, you could not blame Snyder’s girls for wanting to “light” things up Dec. 5 versus Jacksboro.
The Lady Tigers did just that in the Riveron Varsity Girls Shootout, making five three-pointers in the first quarter to get off on the right foot and take control in what became a 58-36 win over the Tigerettes in pool play action.
Jacksboro fell to 4-8 with the setback, their second of the day after a loss to Graham earlier in the day.
Natalee James had three of the five threes in the opening quarter, Snyder ending up with 11 threes for the contest.enabling the Lady Tigers to jump out to a 12-0 lead. Jacksboro made things interesting with a 7-0 string of its own with Hadlee Richardson hitting from both inside and outside and sister Harlee getting a bucket of her own to get within 12-7.
Snyder’s press forced a pair of 10-second calls against the Tigerettes, forcing a turnover. Snyder closed the frame with a 9-0 string with James hitting two three-pointers to key the run. Behind 8-11 shooting from the field, Snyder took a 21-7 lead after one.
A pair of Traci Berend buckets to open the second cut the deficit to 10. Snyder pushed the lead up to 22 over the next 2:30. Three Baylee Thompson baskets closed the quarter strong for the Tigerettes who were down 38-17 at the half.
Snyder outscored Jacksboro 10-9 in the third, Jacksboro missed its last six from the field as part of a 2-16 shooting frame. A Brynn Pardue three-pointer and Thompson bucket and four Thompson free throws the only points with Snyder up 48-26 after three.
The Lady Tigers, who had not gone to the free throw line, finally did so with 2:04 remaining. Jacksboro did not get the lead below 20 in the final frames. Alex Holman, Pardue, Thompson and Hadlee Richardson each had baskets in the final frame.
