Holiday mode is a tough thing to overcome.

With Perrin’s boys basketball team in the middle of the holiday rush, the Pirates had some issues getting into the flow of the game Dec. 30 against Strawn. The Greyhounds, who had played just one game prior, due to a deep run in the football playoffs, led after one quarter, but a 12-0 Perrin run put the visitors behind for good in a 50-34 Pirate victory.

Perrin improves to 5-10 with the win while Strawn remains winless at 0-2. Pirate Coach Jeffrey Browning said his squad’s attitude has been solid throughout the year and it helped with winning this game.

“They’ve done well responding to adversity throughout this whole season,” Browning explained. “I like the face that they’re mentally tough which is going to help them this season and through life.”

Sophomore Tyler Welch helped Perrin get out to a 4-0 lead with a pair of buckets with less than three minutes gone. After missing its first six shots from the floor, the Greyhounds took a 9-8 lead barely three minutes later.

Despite shooting 42% from the field (5-12), the Pirates found themselves down 11-10 after one. The visitors took a four-point lead early in the second before the aforementioned run put Perrin up 21-14.  3-pointers from Michael Goodman, RW Aldridge and Keaton Burke paced the string.
