Bryson Fb wins, Perrin loses

Bryson picked up its first win of the year on the gridiron Sept. 8 with a 76-8 victory over Wichita Falls Notre Dame while Perrin wasn’t as fortunate, suffering a 40-0 loss at Cross Plains.

The Cowboys (1-1) scored 38 points in the first two quarters to end the game on the mercy rule. Bryson ran just 25 offensive plays and held the host Knights to 37 yards and two first downs in the game.

Bryson put up a balanced offensive attack with 323 yards, 175 in the air, as quarterback Braden Houser was 7-9 for 150 yards and Paul Davidson, was 1-1 for 25.

Tigerettes split to open distdrict

When you’re young and trying to get better, even baby steps can seem huge.

Henrietta had been somewhat of a juggernaut for Jacksboro’s varsity volleyballers in recent years, the Lady ‘Cats running through the Purple in straight sets with nary a thought in the process. Trying to right the ship in its District 8-3A opener Saturday, Jacksboro gave a gutty performance, winning the opener of the match 25-20 before losing the last three games 15-25, 20-25, 21-25.

Jacksboro beats Windthorst, 36-28

The ultimate question coming out of Jacksboro’s 36-28 win Friday night over Windthorst was this:

Which running back is Batman and which is Robin?

Senior running backs Hunter Hackley and Caleb Keith combined for 37 carries, 317 yards and four touchdowns in helping the Tigers remain perfect at 2-0 on the season. Keith called he and his backfield mate the “dynamic duo” but was quick to praise his offensive line for their work in a tight game down the stretch.

Jacksboro looks to extend win streak

Allowing seven yards defensively for an entire game will make any coach smile.

Jacksboro did just that in a 61-0 win Sept. 1 over Olney. The Cubs’ district rival Windthorst pays a visit to Tiger Stadium this evening with a much more potent offense, the Trojans putting up 531 yards and 32 points on Henrietta at home in a tough loss to the Bearcats.

Jacksboro Coach Brannon Rodgers said he was pleased with the way his squad prepared for the game and Windthorst will be a good test for his troops.

Bryson falls to Milford

HICO – Bryson fell in a deep first quarter hole to No.3 Milford Saturday here but a furious fourth quarter rally fell just short in a 51-50 loss to the Bulldogs.

The Cowboys, who were preseason No.9 in Class A needed some time to get their offense clicking, down 16-0 after one. Milford extended its lead to 35-8 at the half before Bryson came along, each team scoring 15 points in the third before the Cowboys posted a defensive shutout in the fourth quarter only to fall one point short.

XC squads take part in Boyd meet

BOYD – Jacksboro’s cross country runners had good days competing at a meet here Saturday.

The varsity finished 8th out of 16 schools, led by Javier Palomar in 27th spot out of 135 runners. Daylon Valles and Randall Hamilton were 41-42 with Jose Palomar finishing in 50th. Hoyt Nebgen was 53rd with Drew Bright 60th and Zach Sharp 64th.

On the JV side, Jose Correa finished 36th out of 84 runners to lead the Tigers. Fidencio Bustos was 43rd and David Massengale 44th. Kayne Miller was 66th and Edwin Bustos 72nd.

Tigerettes swept by Graham

Graham senior Jasmine Sims was a dual threat for the Lady Blues here Tuesday evening.

The outside hitter came through with three blocks and 19 kills as the No.6 in Class 4A squad put together a workmanlike effort in a 25-16, 25-15, 25-11 victory over the host Tigerettes. Jacksboro, no slouch itself in being ranked tied for 25th in Class 3A, never seemed to get on track versus the visitors.

Tiger FB opens with 61-0 win

During the annual JHS Football Camp in late July, Jacksboro Football Coach Brannon Rodgers made the comment he wanted that he wanted to light the ‘V’ outside the Tiger Stadium press box as soon as possible.

His Tigers wasted little time in accomplishing that task.

Scoring the first six times they had the ball, Jacksboro got Rodgers his first win as its mentor in the season opener Friday night, a 61-0 home field victory over Olney.

Rodgers said he was pleased to get his first win as a Tiger under his belt and saw plenty of positives in this one.

Tigerette VB falls to Burkburnett

Playing “up” as it’s called is one way a small school gets better.

Jacksboro’s varsity volleyballers have done quite a bit of that lately, seeing larger competition at tournaments, including Class 4A Burkburnett, which it beat in tournament season. Aug. 25, the Lady ‘Dogs had some revenge against the Purple, using a solid frontcourt outing to post a 25-20-20-25, 25-17, 25-14 victory at Tiger Gym.
