BRYSON – Visiting Petrolia jumped out to a 10-0 first quarter lead and kept the host Cowboys from doing much offensively in a 45-23 win over Bryson Jan. 5.

It was Bryson’s last non-conference game, the Cowboys opened loop play in Throckmorton Friday evening.

Perolia (9-4) he’d plenty offside to spare and used it efficiently during the game, Posts Quade West and Cooper Sees combining for all 10 points in the quarter in the first three minutes. Zander Tinney put Bryson on the board with 3:22 gone.

Grayson Allen and Tinney each added another bucket as Bryson kept the 10-point advantage from expanding, the Cowboys getting within six before Petrolia closed strong to lead 16-6 after a quarter.

Bryson shot 23 percent in the first quarter and started cold in the second before Tinney and classmate Landon Stephens buried back to-back three pointers to get the Cowboys within four which ignited a somber crowd at the Corral.

Petrolia used a timeout to get out of the jam and begin to pull away for good, using a pair of three-pointers as well. After missing three of its first four shots, Petrolia finished there half making 4-10 which was enough to extend its lead to 31-14 at the half.

Stephens making a bucket opened the half but the Pirates got rolling with a 7-0 mini-run. Both teams had their worst shooting quarters to date (Petrolia 4-14, Bryson 2-17) but the Pirates extended their lead to 40-18 after three frames.

Petrolia was able to use its shooting of the first half to take the win, as each team scored just five points. A pair of Tinney buckets and a free throw would account for all the Bryson points.

Tinney had 14 points and 12 rebounds to pace both teams. West had 11 points and Sees 13.
