If you’re not learning, you’re not earning.

In a recent discussion with his players, Jacksboro Girls Basketball Coach Kyle Wood found out some things he could be doing better as a coach and that his players could be doing better as the second half of District 7-3A rolls along.

Wood felt the talk may have helped his players play through a tough second half vs. district leading Nocona Jan. 19. The Tigerettes gave a solid effort in the final two quarters but the damage had been done in a 66-29 setback at Tiger Gym.

Jacksboro is now 4-4 in loop play with Nocona remaining perfect at 8-0 atop the loop. Wood said part of the reason behind the loss may have been with him tinkering with things too much after a tough first quarter.

“I think (in the first meeting with Nocona), we did a better job of just being us,” Wood explained. “I think I slowed things down too much (tonight.) We played hard regardless and our effort in the second half was solid as played through the hand checks and the missed rebounds.”

Nocona got out to a quick lead and never let off the gas, senior guard Averee Kleinhans doing most of the damage. Sydni Messer helping out with five first quarter points to move the lead into double figures midway through the frame. Kleinhans had nine tallies in the quarter.

Brynn Pardue had the lone Tigerette points with a three-pointer with 1:32 left in the stanza. The hostesses were down 16-3 after one.

After scoring just seven points in the first half, the Tigerettes tripled their offensive production by the end of the third quarter. A 16-point frame commenced with Pardue again converting from outside.

The Lady Indians built the lead to 29 mid-quarter.

The squads played even the rest of the third with Hadlee Richardson, Traci Berend, Teagan Reynolds, Alex Holman and a pair of Avery Bennett buckets doing the job forJacksboro.

Bennett and fellow freshman Rylee Mathis had buckets in the fourth with Reynolds adding the final two points via free throws.

Pardue, Reynolds and Bennett each had six points to lead a balanced attack for Jacksboro. Kelinhans tossed in 35 points and hauled down 14 rebounds to pace the visitors.
