Tigers end non-district with 44-12 setback

FREDERICK, Okla. – Playing in your first game of the year is always exciting.

Such was the case for the Wellington running back, Marc Ramirez, who missed the first three games of the Skyrockets’ season with a wrist injury. He returned to the gridiron with a vengeance Friday night, rushing for 136 yards and two scores in a 44-12 win over the Jacksboro Tigers at the Bomber Bowl.

Both teams are now 2-2 for the season.

Jacksboro youth football sweeps past Olney

Jacksboro’s Pee Wee and Midget football teams posted wins over visiting Olney Saturday at Tiger Stadium.

Brief summaries of both games follow:

Jacksboro Pee Wee 36, Olney 0
The young Tigers scored every time they had the ball to cruise to the victory.

Jacksboro’s ground game got things started with Derek Collom’s 17-yard run and then a 31-yard jaunt to the one by McCoy Mower setting the stage for Collom’s score. The conversion failed with 4:54 left in the first.

Lady Eagles fly past Tigerettes in sweep

In the midst of a tough season, there are always positives to be found.

Such was the case in game two of Jacksboro’s 11-25, 15-25, 9-25 loss to 6th-ranked Holliday Lady Eagles. After a tough loss in the opener, where the squad had just four serving points from Kylie Tullous (two), Avery Bennett and Chloe Hart to round things out, the Tigerettes fell behind 4-0 in game two.

Success

Jacksboro cross-country runners won the three divisions they competed in during the Olney meet Sept. 15.

The high school girls won their meet with Brailyn Tullous and Emily Rodgers taking 1-2 honors with times of 13:34.22 and 13:44.03, respectively. Judit Herrera was ninth with a 14:50.88 clocking. Michelle Barron was 13th in 15:08.93 with Jocelyn Santillana 15th with a time of 16:28.53.

A complete package

Coaches have been talking about getting their offenses and defenses together to put together the complete package for years.

Friday night, in front of a large throng of Homecoming Night fans, Jacksboro did just that, putting together 422 yards and coming through with a trio of first half turnovers to post a 40-16 win over Wichita Falls City View.

The Tigers won their second straight to go to 2-1 while City View drops to 1-3.

Tigerettes lose District 7-3A opener to Lady Bucks

BRECKENRIDGE – A solid start by Jacksboro was more than countered by Breckenridge’s volleyball team Friday afternoon as the Lady Bucks posted a 15-25, 25-15, 25-12, 25-20 win here.

The young Tigerettes, who had a very rough non-district campaign, looked to turn it around quickly. A four-point Brailyn Tullous string, with help from a pair of Rylee Mathis kills, put the visitors up 7-2 in the opener and forced a Breckenridge timeout. Zena Ragle rolled off three straight to get within 8-9.

Tigerettes take opening set, fall 3-1 to Lady Blues

Jacksboro proved they’re making strides in a slow start to the season Friday evening at Graham High School. After upsetting the Lady Blues in the first set, they eventually fell 22-25, 25-21, 25-9, 25-13.

Much like the Tigerettes under first-year coach Kelli Barnett, the Lady Blues are a team in transition. After graduating all but two varsity players from last year’s roster, the Lady Blues are starting over from nearly the ground up with a roster that is 40% freshman.

Cowgirls sweep past Lady Pirates

PERRIN – Bryson’s volleyball team is learning in the early weeks of the season, developing those skills in the Krum Tournament last month and furthering that in a three-game sweep of county rival Perrin Aug. 24, 25-6, 25-9, 25-17. Bryson coach Kim Hauger said her team started turning the corner in that regard last weekend.

“We started communicating better and I reminded them in the locker room to communicate,” Hauger said. “We didn’t have a lot of balls hit the floor tonight which was a problem earlier because we weren’t communicating.”
