Tigerettes knock Bowie from top of 8-3A hill

Jaymee Yount had one wish her senior year on the Tigerette varsity basketball team: To be able to know (and read) that she and her teammates had beaten Bowie once in her career.

The squad had come close the last three times, leading at halftime of all three encounters only to fall in the second half. This time was different as Jacksboro was down at halftime and the squad was visibly a little panicked.

Boys lost to CV, 65-63

You fight, you battle ...and some nights it still isn’t enough.

City View used a solid outside game, banging home 10 three-pointers to take a 16-point fourth- quarter lead in Jacksboro Friday night. The Tigers finally had enough, screaming back to get within two late in the game and even getting a chance for a game-winning shot before falling 65-63.

Jacksboro closes the first round of District 8-3A play at 2-5 and 7-10 overall with City View now 3-4 and 15-8.

'Pokes split pair of games

BRYSON – Bryson returned home to continue district play and split a pair of games to go to 1-3 in district play.

Friday, the Cowboys played even with Newcastle in the middle quarters but strong starts and finishes by the Bobcats helped the squad pull out a 51-42 victory.

Newcastle led 7-4 after one with each team scoring 12 points in the second for a 19-16 halftime lead.

Both squads had 13 points in the third, keeping Newcastle up three, 32-29 into the fourth quarter.

Eighth 'A' boys win first game

WINDTHORST – Jacksboro’s 8th grade ‘A’ boys basketball team picked up its first win of the year in a tournament here Saturday but wound up second.

The boys opened with a 27-18 win over Quanah. Jacksboro led 7-0 at the quarter and 17-1 at the half. The Indians outscored Jacksboro 6-4 and 11-6 over the final two quarters but the Tigers held on for the win.

Tigerettes corral City View

There are nights where no matter how you try, you can’t avoid beating someone badly.

Jacksboro got out to an 18-0 lead Friday vs. visiting City View and kept things simple and basic, even learning some things in a 77-17 win over the Mustangs. The Tigerettes are now 8-1 in District 8-3A and 23-6 overall while the visitors drop to 0-9and 1-16.

Jacksboro Coach Todd Matlock said his squad was able to work on some things.

“We worked on taking better care of the basketball and did a pretty good job there,” Matlock offered.

Eagles catch Jacksboro boys

Jacksboro’s varsity boys looked to open the second round of District 8-3A on a stronger note than its 2-5 first round record would show.

Unfortunately, so did Holliday.

After falling behind 8-6 to the host Tigers after one quarter Tuesday evening, the Eagles outscored Jacksboro 23-4 in the second quarter and coasted from there to post a 59-32 win at JHS Gym. Jacksboro dropped to 2-6 in District 8-3A and 7-11 overall while Holliday goes to 7-1 and 21-4.

Girls rout Holliday

Jacksboro led from start to finish, held Holliday to just 11 percent shooting and appeared ready for a visit from the Lady Rabbits with a 74-20 victory Tuesday. Baskets from Baylee Thompson and Trinity Tisdale put the hostesses up four in the first 50 seconds. Tisdale got some help from Haley Laake as the lead went into double figures within four minutes.

Sophomore Brinkley Richardson added a pair of buckets late to move the lead to 25-5 after one.

Bryson boys lose pair

BRYSON – The Cowboys opened district play Jan. 12 with a 67-31 loss to host Graford.

Graford took control early, jumping out to a 21-0 lead after one and extending the lead to 32-4 at the half. Bryson got its offense going in the third, scoring 14 points but allowing Graford 18. In the fourth Bryson tossed in 13 points and held Graford to 17.

Braeden Houser tossed in 10 points to pace Bryson and had six rebounds. Paxton Whitaker had seven points with Xander Tinney adding six, Tristan Stephens four with Jon Alaniz and Dillon Orr two each to round out the Cowboy scoring.

Girls edge out Paradise, 43-42

Paradise Girls Basketball Coach Chad Woodard was crystal clear in his point between quarters Jan. 12.

He told his Lady Panthers, who were down 9-6 after the first quarter, to “believe in yourselves” in a voice that left no doubt to anyone in the gym what he wanted to see. Paradise responded in kind, giving Jacksboro everything they wanted and nearly overcoming an eight-point deficit in the final minutes before falling 43-42 at JHS Gym.
