Fidel Lopez

Fidel Lopez passed away Friday, Feb. 4, in Jacksboro. He was 42 years old. Fidel was born Nov. 20, 1979 in Haskell, to Encarnacion “John” Lopez and Margaret Arciba Lopez.

A visitation was held from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Christian Missions in Jacksboro. A funeral service followed at 10 a.m. Burial took place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at Abilene Municipal Cemetery in Abilene.

Fidel is preceded in death by his father; and his brother Rogelio Lopez.

Bill Berry

Bill Berry, 80, went to be home with the Lord Tuesday, Feb. 8. He was born at home in Jack County on June 22, 1941 to Louise Dunlap Berry and Roy William (Bill) Berry. He lived the first five years of his life on the Brazos River with his grandparents while his father served in World War II. He went to school in Jacksboro, graduating from JHS in 1959. On a rodeo scholarship, he attended Sul Ross and Hardin Simmons from which he graduated with an Agriculture Business degree.

Robert William Crombie

Robert William Crombie, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, in Jacksboro. He was 71 years old. Robert was born March 1, 1950 in New York to Hal Crombie and Betty (Lindsey) Crombie.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Christian Missions in Jacksboro.

Robert married the love of his life, Ellen, Dec. 7, 1979 in Jack County. He was a member of the Memorial Christian Church in Jacksboro, and worked in the oil field industry for many years.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents.

Gary Lee "Smokey" Phillips

Gary Lee “Smokey” Phillips passed away Saturday, Jan. 22. Gary was born in Jacksboro on Sept. 18, 1945, to Lowell Pool Phillips and Mildee (Lee) Phillips.

Gary graduated from Jacksboro High School and attended Ranger College before beginning his lifelong career at the Texas Department of Transportation. He retired after nearly 50 years at TXDOT, serving as maintenance foreman in every area of Tarrant County as well as Cleburne, Decatur and Jacksboro.

Gloria Ann Widger

Gloria Ann Widger went home to be with our Lord and Savior Saturday, Dec. 25.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Gloria was born the sixth child and second daughter into a family of older siblings. She was indeed the apple of the eyes of her mother and daddy and was truly his little princess. She grew up on a typical rural Texas family, rich in love and all things meaningful. She attended church faithfully and gave her heart to Jesus at a young age.

Roberta Lea Lewis

Roberta Lea Lewis was born May 16, 1937, in Jacksboro. She was the daughter of Alton Lee and Mildred Burdette (Gillespie) Wade. Roberta married the late Floyd Mack Lewis June 7, 1956 in Wichita Falls. She passed away Friday, Dec. 10, in Richardson at the age of 84.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Church of Christ in Jacksboro.

Freda Gayle Nero

Freda Gayle Nero passed away Saturday, Dec. 4, in Abilene. She was born in Bridgeport, to Frances Inez (Bower) Reeves and James M. Bradley on Dec. 27, 1959. Freda was later adopted by Robert Thurman Reeves as a child. Freda married Loury Drue Nero on June 15, 1985 in Jacksboro.

A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. at Fairview Joplin Cemetery, with a graveside service starting at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9.
