Nathan Wayne Chapoy

Nathan Wayne Chapoy left this earth for his heavenly home on Friday, Aug. 13 at the age of 40 years old. He was born on May 13, 1981 in San Antonio to Rene and Cindy Chapoy.

Nathan married Megan Norvill on Aug. 27, 2015 in Decatur. Together they lived and raised their family in Jacksboro. Nathan was a founder and member of The Light Church and is also a Tarleton State University graduate. Nathan is preceded in death by grandparents, Charles Joe Carrell, Sr., Beverly June Carrell, Vera Carrell, and David Chapoy Sr.

Linda Dyer Pirtle

Linda Dyer Pirtle, 83, passed away Saturday, Aug. 7 in Graham, after a long battle with Alzheimers.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are with Morrison Funeral Home.

Linda was born March 18, 1938 in Dallas to the late Rose Wagner Dyer and Victor Herbert Dyer. She married Walter Twyman Pirtle, March 22, 1977 in Canyon. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2007. Linda and Walter retired to Jack County in 1997 from Plainview. They were the former owners of South Plains Optical in Plainview.

Gregory Alan Lewis

Gregory Alan Lewis, 54, of Jacksboro, was born Sept. 20, 1966 in Jacksboro to Elzie Gevern Lewis, Sr. and Lenora Ann Dillard Lewis. He passed away Monday, Aug. 9 in Wichita Falls.

Greg was a 1985 graduate of Jacksboro High School and a 1989 graduate of Tarleton State University. He married the love of his life and soulmate, Jenilynn Barefield, on July 25, 1992 at the First Baptist Church of Jacksboro.

Sgt. Walter Stephen West

Sgt. Walter Stephen West, 67, passed away at his home in Bryson Monday, Aug. 10. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at the Young County Cowboy Church. Interment followed at Mountain Home Cemetery in Senate. McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday Aug.15.

Dr. Lendon Dale Dutton

Dr. Lendon Dale Dutton passed away on Feb. 21, 2021.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1932, to Troy Dutton and Allie Mae Luckie Dutton in Hamilton. He grew up in Indian Gap, TX and graduated from Pottsville High School. Lendon attended the University of Texas for two years and then attended the University of Texas Dental School in Houston. He graduated in 1956, with his doctorate in dentistry.

Carole Lee Carpenter

Carole Lee Carpenter, 74, of Fort Collins passed away on Tuesday, June 29.

She is survived by Elaine Carpenter; two brothers, Kenny and Tom Carpenter; one sister, Kim Carpenter; two sister-in-laws, Peggy and Joni; four nieces; one nephew; five great nieces; seven great nephews; and one great-great niece and nephew.

She will be greatly missed!

Mary Jean Harding

Mary Jean (Smith) Harding was reunited with her late dear husband, Conrad Lloyd Harding, and late daughter, Virginia Yvonne Varnado on Friday, July 16 at her home on the hilltop at Robert’s Branch after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born in Jacksboro, also on the hilltop at Robert’s Branch, Mary Jean was the proud daughter of Allie and Lester Smith. Mary attended and graduated from Jacksboro High School.

Tommie D. McDonald

Tommie D. McDonald was born April 7, 1941 in Graham. She was the daughter of Ed and Vonnie (Tilghman) Swan.

She and the late Leroy McDonald married June 2, 1962 in Jacksboro. Tommie was a homemaker, but also volunteered her time driving the Concerned Citizens van and worked for period of time at Jacksboro National Bank. You could count on her to be at every event, game and activity that her children and grandchildren were involved in.

Coongravy Johnny R. McCaghren

Coongravy Johnny R. McCaghren, passed away on Monday, July 12, in Fort Worth, surrounded by his family.

Coongravy was born on March 18, 1945 in Olney to O’Dell and Lela (Bishop) McCaghren. He married Charlene Lane on May 11, 1968 at the Methodist Church in Jacksboro.

Together they raised two children, Shannon and Kimberly. Coongravy worked many years in the oilfield and more recently delivered for the City Drug Store. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Elvira Candelaria Balli

Elvira Candelaria Balli, 98, left this world to rest until the coming of the Lord on Sunday, July 11, in Jacksboro.

A Celebration of Life was held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16 at Coker Funeral Home, with a burial at DFW National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 20.

Elvira Balli was born on March 6, 1923 to Antonio and Felipa Plata Candelaria in Victoria.

Elvira is preceded in death by John Balli, her husband of 70 plus years, her parents and all of her siblings: brother: Selestino, Jr.;  and sisters: Lily Serrata, Teresa Santiago, Tony Mendez and Felipa Laurel
