Medicine has changed … Get used to it

Doctor appointments have changed during this last year. Not only are we spaced out around the waiting room, forced to wait in our cars, must wear masks, and talk to the doctors through our smart phones, we’ve got to clean up our living rooms … just like journalist have been doing on the news shows. We don’t want the people at the medical clinic to see our overfilled trash baskets, unfolded laundry, and coffee cups perilously propped on the top of a stack of books we’re planning to read.

Swenson trial wrap-up

Next on the agenda of the trial was the testimony of E.R. Maxwell, who was well-known as a community leader, in Breckenridge, and was named as one of the directors of the Stephens County Museum. Maxwell said, “I was shocked like I had never been before that the two sisters were unhappy about the dealings with the museum organization.” Maxwell went on to say, “I had made as many as 20 visits to the Swenson home and I never recalled any controversy or dissatisfaction over any of the plans for the museum until I received the phone call that said the two sisters had filed a petition with the court.”

COVID-19 vaccine pace rises while statewide hospitalizations drop

The number of people in Texas hospitalized with COVID-19 has declined more than 28 percent in the past month, according to the Texas Department of Health Services. As of Feb. 7, Texas hospitals were treating 9,957 COVID-19 patients, down from nearly 14,000 a month ago. The number of new cases in the past week was 123,239 — a 22 percent drop from the record high of 158,922 the week of Jan. 10, according to the Coronavirus Resource Center at Johns Hopkins University.

Vaccine update given by County Judge Umphress

More than 400 1st doses of COVID vaccines are expected this week with several 2nd doses to medical personnel, first responders also coming later this week.

County Judge Keith Umphress said in an e-mail Sunday night about 400 first doses for which people will be scheduled for are scheduled to be given Thursday at a mass distribution vaccine center at the Twin Lakes Activity Center.

Umphress said there are about 800 people waiting on the Master List. Scheduling was to begin Monday morning.
