Hospital board changes meeting dates

In a brief meeting Tuesday evening, Jack County Hospital District Board members agreed to a change in the bylaws to move their monthly meeting date.

Because of board members having increasing trouble making Tuesday night board meetings, the board opted to move their meeting dates starting in June to the fourth Monday of every month at 6 p.m. Because the fourth Monday in May is Memorial Day, the board also voted to cancel its May meeting.

City to sell delinquent tax properties

The City of Jacksboro is selling some properties it abated and others that did not meet the minimum bid at the sheriff’s tax sale. The lots discussed at the council’s regular meeting Monday were 317 N. 4th St., 535 W. Archer St. and 332 N. 9th St.

The city received unsolicited offers to buy the properties prior to the meeting.

City Manager Mike Smith said the property at 317 N. 4th was voluntarily abated after a fire destroyed the home there a few years ago.

One seat contested on BISD board

BRYSON – While three spots on the Bryson ISD board are up for reelection, only one is a contested race.

Places 6 and 7 only had the incumbents Cliff Smith and Travis Thorne file. Place 2 had one candidate file in newcomer Hayden Behling with Danny Lewis, who is presently serving in the spot, as a write-in candidate. Lewis said he had every intention of filing for the position but work kept him from doing so.

“I was out of town on the last day (to file),” Lewis said. “I had planned on being in town and thought I would just file on the last day, but couldn’t do it.”
