Perrin-Whitt CISD honors cotton team

PERRIN – Members of the State Champion Cotton Evaluation Team were honored at the Perrin-Whitt CISD board meeting Thursday, April 28.

Wyatt Keeney, Tyce Lambert, Jaylee Holmes and Riley Richerson had their contest attributes described by Ag Instructor Jacob Lange. Lange said the group evaluated color and leaf count. Each team had 50 samples to grade.

Lambert finished 2nd overall out of 424 individuals, with a score of 960 out of a possible 1,000. Holmes finished in 6th place overall, with a score of 910, with Keeney finishing 8th, with a score of 900. Nearly 125 teams took part in the event.

In other news, Elementary Principal Amy Salazar and Secondary Principal Loren Sell gave reports saying lots of things are going on and will continue to do so to close out the year. Salazar highlighted the recent book fair which raised $885.

Sell spoke of the One Act Play group which made it to area. Graduation is set 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 27.

In his report, PWCISD Superintendent Cliff Gilmore said attendance rates are beginning to catch up after the downturn late last year.

Several players and coaches will be taking part in all-star games this summer, including both coach Todd McCormick and Kevin Loyd coaching the East team in the Six-Man Coaches Association Boys Basketball Game. The game will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls.

McCormick was named Class A Coach of the Year, Gilmore said.
