Jacksboro to take on Millsap in week eight

The Jacksboro Tigers varsity football had a bye week this past week after coming off a bright spot in their season, picking up their first win over the Burkburnett Bulldogs. The Tigers will next take on the City View Mustangs before going up against the Millsap Bulldogs later this month.

Against Burkburnett the Tigers had some really strong playmakers all around. Quarterback Wyatt Gavit threw for 357 yards and four touchdowns with a 133.9 quarterback rating.

Tigerettes bounce back with five set win over Henrietta

The Jacksboro Tigerettes varsity volleyball team were due for a big win and that’s exactly what they got against the Henrietta Ladycats. The team picked up a win in a thrilling five sets.

Set one saw the Tigerettes narrowly pull out a victory by two points 25-23. However, the Ladycats flipped that score in set two, evening the match at 1-1.

For the third straight set things ended 25-23 as well and the Tigerettes were staring down the barrel of a loss, but the team showed grit.

Tigers go undefeated in second week of fall league basketball

The Jacksboro Tigers varsity basketball team took major strides in their second week of fall league basketball in Graham. The team went an undefeated 2-0 in their slate of games this past week.

Tigers head coach Alex Rodriguez believes that this first time in the fall league will provide valuable experience for them to build chemistry on the court as they advance closer to the regular season.

Tigerettes drop matchup against Iowa Park

The Jacksboro Tigerettes varsity volleyball team picked up their schedule this past weekend against the Iowa Park Lady Hawks. Unfortunately for Jacksboro, they were not able to get the job done, losing in three sets.

Jacksboro put up a fight in the first two sets of the matchup versus the Lady Hawks, trying to make it a contest, but ultimately came up short losing to Iowa Park 25-14 in set one and 25-15 in set two.

Trailing 0-2 with one set to go, the Tigerettes simply got outmatched in set three against the Lady Hawks, losing 25-9 and ultimately getting swept.

Tigerettes take down Bowie in five sets

The Jacksboro Tigerettes varsity volleyball team defeated the Bowie Lady Rabbits in five sets during the team’s early week matchup.

The match took place Tuesday, Sept. 23, in what was truly a back and forth affair. Things started off slow for the Tigerettes as the team dropped their first set by a final score of 25-17.

The Tigerettes bounced back however, winning set two by a score of 25-15, evening the match at 1-1.

Tigers pick up first win of the season over Burkburnett

It was a rough start to the season for the Jacksboro Tigers varsity football team, but after a month of hard work they finally had something to smile about after defeating the Burkburnett Bulldogs 62-13.

The matchup took place Friday, Sept. 26, and head coach Casey Hubble is proud of the team, not just for their effort in this game, but during the season as a whole.

“It feels good,” Hubble said. “The reality is when you work hard you have a chance to get what you want. We were able to play a complete game. I’m proud of our kids. They deserve it.”

Cowboys dominate Woodson in week five

Week five came and went for the Bryson Cowboys and they defeated the Woodson Cowboys 58-6 in a dominant display.

Some standout players in the game were those like Drew Epperson, who scored early in the contest running down the right sideline on a touchdown.

Canton Scobee also continued to run the ball hard throughout the contest setting up Bryson in key field position throughout for scoring opportunities.

Ben Bennett also found the endzone on the day in the first half for Bryson. Bennett has proven himself to be a pivotal hybrid piece of the team throughout the season.

Keeney, Pirates ground game, mercy rules Grace Classical 50-0

The Perrin-Whitt Pirates varsity football team had one of their most dominant wins of the season against Grace Classical Christian Academy. The Pirates ran over the Gryphons 50-0 and there was one player who stood out above the rest—Cole Keeney.

“He’s just rock solid,” Pirates head coach Kevin Lloyd said. “He leads by example. His effort is the way that he leads. He’s rock solid, doesn’t make many mistakes and gives it all he has every time he’s out there.”

Tigerettes, Lady Pirates see mixed results in late week matchups

It was a few days of mixed results for the Tigerettes and Lady Pirates in their late week matchups. The Lady Pirates kicked off their action against Chico and lost in five sets. However, the Tigerettes were able to pick up a clean sweep against Vernon for a win.

The first of these two matchups took place Thursday, Sept. 18, against the Chico Lady Dragons. It was a back and forth affair throughout, but the team narrowly lost.

Cowboys outmatched by Strawn

The Bryson Cowboys varsity football team experienced a bit of a reset point this past week against Strawn. The team lost 56-8 in a game that head coach Kevin Ray hopes the team takes away as a learning experience.

“First of all, credit to Strawn. They are a very good team,” Ray said. “Hopefully they learned a lot about being aggressive and playing hard. I think at our level they did (play hard), but they showed us another level that we aspire to get to.”
