Cowboys come up just short against Perrin-Whitt

It was a hard fought day overall for the Bryson Cowboys as they did their best to mount a monumental comeback against the Perrin-Whitt Pirates. However, the team came up just short losing narrowly by two points 72-70.

The game on Friday, Oct. 17 didn’t get off to the start that the Cowboys wanted.

Bryson found themselves trailing by a large margin early being it was 30-6 after quarter one and 64-38 going into halftime.

Lady Pirates pick up big district victory over Newcastle

The Perrin-Whitt Lady Pirates continued their hot start to district play against the Newcastle Ladycats. That is now three consecutive wins for the team in district to place them solidly in first place.

The Lady Pirates held the first serve in set one and went back and forth with the Ladycats until their sixth possession.

During that possession, the Lady Pirates got on a roll, picking up eight consecutive points to make it 16-11 Perrin-Whitt.

Bryson to face Knox City in second district matchup

The Cowboys were on their bye this past week and will continue into district play going forward. With this new leg of the season comes elevated matches and one of those big matches will be against Knox City.

This is the Cowboys’ next big matchup as of Saturday, Oct. 18 and they will be up for a big test.

The last time these two teams played was in October 2024, and the Greyhounds defeated the Cowboys 56-24 in that matchup.

However, the Cowboys may have a bit of an advantage this go around as the Greyhounds haven’t been as strong to start the year.

Pirates drop district opener against Newcastle

The Perrin-Whitt Pirates didn’t get off to the best start in their district opening matchup against the Newcastle Bobcats, losing the matchup 53-14 and falling to 0-1 in the district.

This was a game that head coach Kevin Lloyd believed was mostly held together by the defensive unit.

“I thought the defense played well,” Lloyd said. “I felt like we were on defense the entire first half and they got plenty of stops.”

Ultimately, Lloyd credited the whole unit for keeping things competitive throughout the contest despite the loss.

Jacksboro wins in district opener versus City View

The Jacksboro Tigers got district play started off on the right foot with a victory over the City View Mustangs.

The Tigers got into a back and forth battle and ultimately pulled away for a 49-34 victory. Overall, head coach Casey Hubble feels the team is getting healthier and playing well at the right time.

“I feel like we’re playing good football,” Hubble said. “We’re getting some guys back we didn’t have, our quarterbacks are playing well. We’re playing good football.”

Tigers go 2-0 in third week of fall league

The Jacksboro Tigers headed back to Graham Junior High School for their third week of fall league games this past week. The team had another strong finish on the day with a 2-0 record. 

The third week of fall league games took place Monday, Oct. 6, where the Tigers took on the Olney Cubs and Breckenridge Buckaroos. 

Their first game was against Olney, which saw the Tigers win in convincing fashion 64-32.

Cowgirls, Lady Pirates face off in district showdown

The Bryson Cowgirls and the Perrin-Whitt Lady Pirates had their first head to head match of the season in district play this past week. The contest was hard fought throughout, but the Lady Pirates were the ones who ended the day with the victory.

Bryson had the first serve in their matchup and scored first. Perrin countered though, going up 3-1 and then picking up five more points in their second possession to go up 8-2.

The Cowgirls fought back though and the set turned into a very back and forth affair with things going into extra serves.

Lady Pirates pick up sweep against Garner

The Perrin Lady Pirates varsity volleyball team picked up a big victory in their matchup against the Garner Lady Longhorns. The team picked up a complete sweep in an all-around great performance.

“That’s good for us,” Lady Pirates head coach Rebekah Bland said. “They seemed more level. For the most part I thought it was way more consistent.”

Pirates pillage Panthers in latest showdown

The Perrin-Whitt Pirates varsity football team are off to a high flying start as they have started their season 5-1. They achieved this by beating the Saint Jo Panthers by a score of 81-36.

Despite the strong record, head coach Kevin Lloyd believes there is an even higher level of competition the team can reach.

“We need to get back to playing Perrin football,” Lloyd said. “I felt like the first five games of the year we played okay, but I think there’s another level we can get to that I think we can play at.”

Cowboys take down Gorman in homecoming win

It was a big night for the Bryson Cowboys varsity football team as they wrapped up what was an overall big week for the school district. The team played in their annual homecoming game and put on a show for the fans as they dominated the Gorman Panthers.

The game was played Friday, Oct. 3, and the Cowboys won 52-6.

This game was one that head coach Kevin Ray said he was impressed with all around, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
