Perrin’s Tucker named to All-State in volleyball

Kelli Tucker knows a few things about success in her high school career.

The All-A honor roll student at Perrin High School has qualified for State in cross country, powerlifting, and track in her four years as a Lady Pirate. Last week, Tucker added another All-State nod to her accolades as she was selected to the Class A All-State volleyball team by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

The Lady Pirates went to the area round of the postseason for the second year in a row and Tucker, a four-year starter for Perrin, was a major reason for that.

Defensively, Pirates were named at five of the six positions. Lane Self at nose guard, Jake Holmes as a lineman, Raul Martinez as a linebacker, Hernandez as a cornerback and Tyler Welch at safety.

Perrin Lady Pirates fall late to Olney Lady Cubs

PERRIN – The Lady Pirates and visiting Olney battled for three quarters Monday, Nov. 25, Olney fighting to stay close for most of the game.

Tied at 23 heading to the final quarter, the Lady Cubs used their first three-pointer of the game to begin the pulling away process. Perrin missed its last five shots from the floor with Olney having its best shooting frame of the game to post a harder than it looked 39-31 win over the hostesses.

Pirates slated for district title after win against Cowboys

Perrin has a chance to win their first district title since 1971 defeating Bryson 28-24 on Nov. 1.

The Pirates move to 8-1 on the season and are undefeated in district. Bryson falls to 4-5 and is winless in the district.

The Pirate’s eight wins equal with their most wins in a season when the Pirates went 8-3 and 4-1 in the district in 2008.

Goodman, Tucker advance to state

Kelli Tucker and Michael Goodman ran well enough at their regional meet Oct. 28 in Grand Prairie to advance to the UIL Cross Country State Meet.

Tucker and Goodman both made it as individuals, with Goodman finishing 22nd overall and Tucker finishing 15th. The top four schools in each category advance as a team, so when their runners were removed Tucker finished 7th overall and Goodman finished 5th.

Lady Pirates secure second seed against Graford

Perrin fought back after losing the first set in the match against Graford Oct. 29, winning their senior night match 3-1 to earn a second-place finish in the district.

The first set was back-and-forth throughout as the Lady Pirates and the Rabbits traded leads to 9-9. Graford jumped ahead with two missed Perrin spikes but the Lady Pirates came back with a kill from Kelli Tucker, followed by two aces from Tucker and two more kills from Aaliyah Brown bringing the Lady Pirate lead to 14-11.

Perrin pounds Three Way to earn playoff berth

Perrin earned a playoff berth in its resounding win against Three Way Oct. 26, beating the Braves in straight sets.

Perrin dominated the opening set, with senior Kelli Tucker and freshman Aaliyah Brown scoring a majority of the points. Tucker had three aces to start the set and Brown had four kills and a tap-over to give the Lady Pirates an early 8-0 lead.

Early leads would be the theme of the match as the Lady Pirates never trailed in the match.

Perrin falls to Poolville Lady Monarchs

Coach Rebekah Bland was proud of how the Perrin volleyball team played against Poolville on Oct. 18, despite losing in straight sets.

Bland said the first two sets were some of the best volleyball she has seen her team play and there were positives to take away from the match.

“The first two sets I was pleased,” Bland said. “We played pretty much point for point until the end of each of them. The third set we just lost our confidence.”

Perrin wins State Horseshoe title

There’s nothing better than coming out on top.

Perrin-Whitt knows the feeling, as a group of high school students came in to Love Street Park here Saturday with few expectations except to have a good time. That they did as the Pirate team not only won the first ever State High School Horseshoes Tournament, sponsored by the Weatherford Noon Lions Club,  but had the individual champion in sophomore Tyler Welch.
