When coming off of volleyball season, there’s a little bit of leeway for your volleyball players to get into basketball season and be ready to play.
That time is fast ending in the eyes of Jacksboro Girls Basketball Coach Todd Matlock.
BOWIE – Kickers are the first to come out and warm up, never knowing if they’ll be needed.
BRYSON – After a season that ended in the State semifinals, Bryson had several members named to the All-District 10-A volleyball team announced Thursday morning.
Senior Sydney Davidson was Overall MVP with classmate Maddee Moore named Co-Defensive MVP. Freshman Windsor Godfrey was newcomer of the year.
First-team all-district picks were Kyla Jones, Alyssa Perez, Kayleigh Pippin, and Brinkley Richardson. Hayle Leatherwood and Hannah Robinson were second-team selections with Victoria Goodman and honorable mention pick.
MIDLOTHIAN – Brinkley Richardson wanted to end Saturday’s Region II-A Final in a sweep.
Bryson’s junior middle hitter had contributed to her Cowgirls taking the first two games vs. Saint Jo 26-24, 25-21 and taking a 14-4 lead in game three. Like the good teams always will, the Lady Panthers stormed back to within 15-16 to make things interesting.
After Rio Vista had cut what was a 24-point deficit down to eight with still more than six minutes to go Friday night, you couldn’t blame Caleb Helm for being a little upset.
MIDLOTHIAN – One down, one step to go.
After a visit to the Regional volleyball tournament last year ended rather quickly in disappointment in the semifinals, Bryson’s volleyball team was hoping a change in venue and a new year would mean better things.
Every group of seniors is different.
Seventeen upperclassmen will take the Tiger Stadium turf for the last time this evening as Jacksboro plays its final home game of the 2018 season vs. Rio Vista. The Tigers have won three straight to go to 3-1 in District 6-3A Division II and 5-4 overall while the Eagles are still looking for their first district win (0-4, 2-7).
Jacksboro broke things open after a tight second half to post a 48-26 win over Millsap, which solidified a playoff spot. Jacksboro Coach Brannon Rodgers said the game was a dogfight in the first half.
WICHITA FALLS – With little time to get ready for Tuesday evening’s season opener, Jacksboro’s girls' basketball team displayed what it could be like once it gets some practices and conditioning under its belt.
The Tigerettes got out to a quick start and cruised to a 46-20 win over Class 5A Wichita Falls Rider. The Tigerettes had one scrimmage and two practices before hitting the hardwood for real.
LINDSAY – Dodd City is known more as a basketball school than for volleyball, the Lady Hornets currently ranked 3rd in the Class A preseason polls.
BRYSON – Desperation can be a powerful motivator.
After leading visiting Perrin by 12 points late in the first half, the Pirates turned things around and took a 32-26 lead midway through the third quarter. With a Perrin win just about clinching the Cowboys’ potential playoff fate, Bryson decided to turn things around.
