Cowgirls resume action in Slidell tournament

After the Christmas break, the Bryson Cowgirls basketball team resumed action this past week with a slate of games in a tournament against Slidell. The Cowgirls took strides on the first day of the tournament going 1-1.

The tournament began Monday, Dec. 29 and ran until Wednesday, Dec. 31 and after taking a loss to the Petrolia Lady Pirates the Cowgirls bounced back in their matchup against the Alvord Lady Bulldogs 34-25.

Tigers break schedule with game against Breckenridge

Before taking a break in their season, the Jacksboro Tigers basketball team played a matchup against the Breckenridge Buckaroos, dropping the game in a narrow loss 43-39.

The game took place Monday, Dec. 22 and despite the loss the team stood out on offense.

After the first quarter, the Tigers were in the lead by five 15-10 after Brayden Rockey made a statement on four midrange jumpers and a three pointer.

Wyatt Gavit scored in support of Rockey with a pair of two point jumpers to round out the scoring in the quarter.

Walker commits to Oklahoma Christian University

One of the Tigerettes basketball team’s brightest stars has chosen where she is going to continue her athletic career in college. Hayden Walker has committed to Oklahoma Christian University.

The announcement was made back in November and head coach Clayton Brown could not be more proud of what Walker has accomplished.

Brown said from the start that Walker’s goal was to play basketball at the next level after high school and that is exactly what she is accomplishing here.

Pirates take commanding victory over Cardinals

In their final matchup of 2025, the Perrin-Whitt Pirates ended the year with a bang, putting on an offensive surge to defeat the Lingleville Cardinals in a decisive 69-24 victory.

The game took place Friday, Dec. 19 and after the first quarter the Pirates were already out in front 21-2. Case Lambert scored eight points on four two point jumpers while Cole Keeney scored seven points on a three pointer and two midrange jumpshots.

Lady Pirates dominate Lingleville in late week showdown

The Lady Pirates had a late week matchup before the holiday break last week, dominating the Lady Cardinals 52-14.

The matchup took place Friday, Dec. 19 and after the first quarter the Lady Pirates held a six point lead 9-3.

McKieran Murphy scored six points in the quarter with two three pointers. Kadie Dugan hit a two point shot to back Murphy up and Baylee Meadows hit a free throw.

The Lady Pirates tacked on 10 more points in the second quarter to take a 19-5 lead at halftime. Murphy, Bea Adams, Dugan, Morgan Dudley and Callie Weddle each scored in the quarter.

Tigerettes take down Henrietta in late week showdown

The Jacksboro Tigerettes basketball team continued their strong start to the season with an overall dominant week of play. After defeating the Vernon Lady Lions early last week, the Tigerettes followed this up with a victory over the Henrietta Lady Cats 51-34.

The late week matchup took place Friday, Dec. 19 just before the holiday break. The Tigerettes found themselves in a battle during the first half of play trailing 12-10 after the first quarter.

Hayden Walker hit a pair of three pointers while Kolbi Rockey and Starr Wesson gave her support with midrange jumpers.

Cowgirls lose narrowly to Harrold in early week matchup

The Bryson Cowgirls played an early week matchup against Harrold but were not able to get the job done, losing a narrow effort to the Lady Hornets 42-36.

The game took place Tuesday, Dec. 16 and despite the loss there were still several strong performances from the Cowgirls across the board.

The Cowgirls took a 9-4 lead after one quarter and even led 22-9 going into halftime. However, things started to slip away from Bryson in the third quarter when they were outscored by six points to wind up trailing 28-27 going into the final quarter of play.

Tigerettes ball out in Nocona tournament

The Jacksboro Tigerettes basketball team continued the strong start to their season after participating in a tournament in Nocona this past weekend. The Tigerettes overall had a solid performance, finishing the tournament with a 3-2 record.

The tournament took place from Thursday, Dec. 11 to Saturday, Dec. 13 and in that time the Tigerettes took on teams of Bland, Nocona, Bridgeport, Saint Jo and Paradise.

The Tigerettes’ most dominant win of the tournament came against the Saint Jo Lady Panthers in a 58-17 blowout.

Pirates go undefeated in Santo tournament

The Perrin-Whitt Pirates basketball team left their mark at a weekend tournament in Santo, wrapping things up with a perfect 4-0 record.  

The tournament took place from Thursday, Dec. 11 to Saturday, Dec. 13 and the Pirates got things off to a strong start against the Azle Christian Fighting Crusaders. The Pirates came out with their most dominant victory of the tournament 73-23.

Pirate defense was electric in the first quarter—limiting the Fighting Crusaders to just two points while the Pirate offense put up 25 points.

Cowboys fight hard in Thackerville tournament

The Bryson Cowboys took a long road trip up to Oklahoma for the Thackerville Red River Classic tournament this past weekend, finishing 0-2 in close contests.

The first game for the Cowboys took place Thursday, Dec. 11 against the Ringling Blue Devils. The Cowboys gave it their all but lost by just four points 53-49.

Trevor Cotter was the lone scorer for the Cowboys in the first quarter with a free throw to end the quarter with one point.

Bryson got going in the second quarter with a more holistic scoring performance from the team.
