Jacksboro will be sending several athletes to the Region 1-3A Meet this weekend in Abilene after several top four placings at the Area Meet here April 20. The girls finished fifth among 16 teams.
Behind a 14-hit attack, Jacksboro’s softball girls evened their District 7-3A record at 5-5 with a 16-1, three-inning home win Tuesday, April 11 over Vernon. The squad finished their regular season Monday at City View.
Locked in a 1-all tie with visiting Vernon, Jacksboro’s baseballers used the bats they’ve been known for all year and a stellar complete game mound performance from Wyatt Gavit to post a 5-1 win Tuesday, April 11 over the Lions.
Several county athletes will be attending the Region III 1A track meet April 28-29 in Whitney by virtue of strong showings at the area meet Tuesday, April 11 in Bryson. On the boys side, Perrin’s Dylan Trammell won the discus with a throw of 122’8”.
Wyatt Gavit’s walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh gave the Jacksboro Tigers a 3-2 win Saturday, April 15 over Lawton Eisenhower. In the decisive seventh, Cannon Valenzuela led off with a single off relief pitcher Charlie Trachte, went to second on a wild pitch and scored as Gavit delivered a hard hopper past the first baseman and into right field for the walkoff hit to end the 2:04 contest.
Jacksboro’s track teams compe t ed Thursday, March 30 in the Krum Invitational, both squads finishing 2nd in their divisions. On the varsity boys side, Kaleen Howard won the long jump with a 19’10” effort and Cannon Valenzuela won the triple jump with a 42’11 3/4” try.
Fighting back from an early deficit Tuesday, April 4, Jacksboro’s baseball team tied the game at three, only to have a two-out error allow the Eagles to take control and post a closer than it looked 9-4 win at Jake Cottrell Park.
Shelby Seaberry allowed just six Holliday hits and two runs Tuesday, April 4, but it was still enough to hold off visiting Jacksboro in a 2-1 win for the Lady Eagles. Jacksboro falls to 3-5 in District 7-3A with Holliday going to 7-1 in the loop.
