Tigers lose in area round end season with 8-4 record

BURLESON – For a half, Jacksboro gave No. 9 Rogers a fight, things changed very quickly in the second half, as Rogers scored five touchdowns to pull away to a 46-14 area round win over the Tigers at Burleson Stadium.

After Rogers scored on a 9-yard pass on its first drive of the game, Jacksboro used the running back duo of Justin Loucks and Caleb Helm to move the ball downfield. The squad tried its first pass early in the second quarter to no avail.

Thompson hopes to wreck Texas Tech

Chase Thompson knew where his sister Baylee was going to school three years ago.

Chase, a freshman at Texas Tech University at the time, said he knew Baylee, a freshman at Jacksboro High School, was going to be a dominant high school track athlete and called where she was going to school.

“I said she’ll get a full ride at Tech either academically or athletically, but I knew where she was going,” Chase Thompson said with a laugh. “I called it.”

Defense, special teams reign supreme in Jacksboro’s win

BOWIE – Seth Isbell showed no fear Friday night.

After he blocked one Henrietta punt which led to a first-half touchdown, the senior figured why not give it another try on a fourth quarter Bearcat punt.

“There was no call for a block,” Isbell said with a smile. “I just went in there and did it.”

The second time worked like a charm as well with Brayden Roberts picking the ball up and taking it in for another score. Isbell keyed a Tiger defense and special teams which accounted for 34 points in a 55-21 Class 3A bi-district win at Jackrabbit Stadium.

Cowgirls sweep Lady ‘Horns in bi-district

The Bryson Cowgirls volleyball team began their 2019 playoff slate, just as they did in their 2018 state tournament run, with a bi-district match versus the Forestburg Lady ‘Horns. The Cowgirls defeated the Lady ‘Horns in straight sets 25-17, 25-10, and 25-14, Thursday night at Jacksboro’s Tiger Gymnasium.

Bryson had won its regular season match in August versus Forestburg and looked ready to take care of business in the playoff match. The Lady ‘Horns had other ideas, however, taking advantage of the notorious slow start by Bryson to keep things interesting in set one.

DISTRICT CHAMPS!

Balance has been the name of the game in Jacksboro, the Tigers using a number of running backs to wear down defenses the last several years.

Friday night, there was still some balance to a certain extent, as running backs Caleb Helm (136 yards) and Justin Loucks (142 yards) combined for three rushing touchdowns offensively. It was the Tiger defense that came to play in the second half, however, of a tight game in the first half and post a 28-24 win over visiting Millsap before a sparse crowd at Tiger Stadium.

Pirates slated for district title after win against Cowboys

Perrin has a chance to win their first district title since 1971 defeating Bryson 28-24 on Nov. 1.

The Pirates move to 8-1 on the season and are undefeated in district. Bryson falls to 4-5 and is winless in the district.

The Pirate’s eight wins equal with their most wins in a season when the Pirates went 8-3 and 4-1 in the district in 2008.

Bryson Cowgirls sweep past Lady Bobcats

Bryson’s volleyball team continued its scenario of playing down to its opponents Tuesday night, getting off to a quick start before letting the visiting Lady Bobcats make things interesting in game two before pulling away to post a 25-13, 25-21, 25-11 win at Bryson Gym.

The Cowgirls will be the top Class A seed in the playoffs out of their combined district. The postseason begins for Bryson with a first round bye.

Goodman, Tucker advance to state

Kelli Tucker and Michael Goodman ran well enough at their regional meet Oct. 28 in Grand Prairie to advance to the UIL Cross Country State Meet.

Tucker and Goodman both made it as individuals, with Goodman finishing 22nd overall and Tucker finishing 15th. The top four schools in each category advance as a team, so when their runners were removed Tucker finished 7th overall and Goodman finished 5th.

Lady Pirates secure second seed against Graford

Perrin fought back after losing the first set in the match against Graford Oct. 29, winning their senior night match 3-1 to earn a second-place finish in the district.

The first set was back-and-forth throughout as the Lady Pirates and the Rabbits traded leads to 9-9. Graford jumped ahead with two missed Perrin spikes but the Lady Pirates came back with a kill from Kelli Tucker, followed by two aces from Tucker and two more kills from Aaliyah Brown bringing the Lady Pirate lead to 14-11.

Tigers remain undefeated in district play

A quick start for Jacksboro Friday night could mean smooth sailing to the District 6-3A Division II championship.

The host Tigers scored 10 points in the first seven minutes and change and made the lead stick as Jacksboro took control of its own destiny in the loop with a 23-16 win over Dublin at Tiger Stadium. Both teams were unbeaten in the loop heading into the matchup which left Jacksboro at 3-0 and 5-3 overall with the Lions slipping to 2-1 and 6-2 overall.
