Getting after it

As Queen so eloquently put in one of their classic hits “Another One Bites the Dust”, the 2020 Fall Sports Tab has been put to rest.

It will be out on the streets in the next couple of weeks as part of the regular paper. The Tab will include stories, team photos and schedules from our three county schools. We’re hoping you enjoy it.

As always a lot of sweat, and tears went into it as I’m always wondering if I’m going to have enough to go into it. With the early deadlines this year, I had to scramble to get some of the team pics in.

Uncommon will describe 2020 Jacksboro football season

With everything that has been going on concerning high school athletics so far in 2020, it seems only fitting the 2020 Jacksboro High School team motto is “Uncommon.”

Jacksboro Independent School District Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Brannon Rodgers unveiled the sign during the regular Jacksboro Lions Club meeting Aug. 12. The sign will be placed on every locker room and every door in it.

Camp Meals The Easy Way

I enjoyed a summer hog hunt with some great friends recently and, as is often the case, I volunteered to be the camp cook. I learned a long time ago that it’s most challenging to actually hunt, or fish for that matter, and come in after being in the field or on the water all day and prepare a tasty meal. Granted, it’s easy enough to open a can of Spam or make cold cuts and cheese sandwiches but the kind of camp meals that are remembered take a bit of preparation.

Ecstatic doesn’t even come close

I was driving to work last Tuesday morning when I got the news from colleague Mike Williams that brought normalcy back to my life.

The fact that Class A-4A schools were being left alone by the UIL and could have a full Fall sports schedule made my heart leap for joy. I had commented in previous columns about being willing to take any sports watching I could get.
