Taking care of business

BRYSON – Every team faces adversity in a season. It’s how you face it that can effect how you do when things get back to normal.

Cowgirl Riley Valliant missed her second straight game Friday due to health concerns. The first was a tough road loss Tuesday but in the friendly confines of Cowgirl Gym vs. Gold-Burg Friday, the squad seemed to turn things around enroute to a tougher than it looked 39-29 win over the Lady Bears.

Bear trap

BRYSON – With nine seniors set to graduate after this season, Bryson’s boys basketballers are needing to find replacements on the floor while still playing for this year.

Games like Friday night’s 77-42 win over visiting Gold-Burg can accomplish that, Coach Slade Egan having the opportunity to play many of his underclassmen who looked good in their time on the floor.

Eagles fly over JHS girls with big 2nd half

In a rematch of former District 7-3A foes, Brock’s girls found themselves down in the first half to host Jacksboro Dec. 8 by a many as nine. As most Eagles squad will do, however, the Lady Eagles mounted a comeback in the second half and posted a closer than it looked 36-26 win at Tiger Gym

Jacksboro slipped to 5-4 with the setback while Brock went to 3-4. Tigerette Coach Kyle Wood said he was pleased with the way his squad played overall.

Graford escapes Paradise

GRAFORD – It takes time to buy into a new coach’s philosophy, especially when one was legend Ty Tabor.

Graford Boys Coach Jeff Bell knows a few things about legend, having won a few state titles, 860 games and being a member of the Texas Boys Coaches Association Hall of Fame during his career. Still, Bell knows he has to earn his keep in his firstyear at the helm of the Rabbits and is doing his best to do so.

Chalmers buries last-second layin vs. Gainesville for JHS to stay unbeaten

It wasn’t like Rylan Chalmers was trying to reinvent the wheel with a layin late vs. Gainesville Dec. 8.

The senior guard had done it a number of times vs. the Leopards on his 22-point night. It was the last time that was broke the visitors’ back. Chalmers and his teammates were going for the last shot when he got the ball and appeared almost hesitant to make the attempt.
