Liking the doubleheader

MILLSAP – After having missed several months of sports due to COVID earlier this year, I like doing anything but not at the sacrifice of friends or family.

This past Friday the Jacksboro girls basketball coaches and teams opened their season over at Millsap, just ahead of the football team which was playing in their regular season finale. It was a neat idea and one designed to get folks excited before the football game, which had the Tigers fighting for playoff positioning.

Cowgirls buck Three Way from Class A VB playoffs

MINERAL WELLS – There are many things you can do in 48 minutes: Watching an hour-long show on the DVR and do some grocery shopping are just a couple.

Bryson did a third Nov. 3: Vote Three Way out of the playoffs.

The District 9-A champs got out to a slow start and roared to a quick finish against their former district rivals of the last few years in a 25-12, 25-7, 25-3 rout.

The slow start, a Bryson staple this year, was mentioned by Coach Kim Hauger.

“We started slow but in that first time out I told them we can’t have this and needed to turn it around,”

Maybe this year …

High school seniors are a special breed, particularly if you’ve been with them for a spell.

I’ve covered several groups of them over the years, many of them with their own story and personality.

The first I vividly remember was the Class of1995 when I was in Taylor as they were the first to have a Homecoming King. The young men campaigned for the top spot as hard as the ladies did and when Matt Maruska was named, the flood gates opened above and we ended up getting more than six inches of rain that night.

Pirates knocked from the playoff ship

HENRIETTA – You could almost see the animosity of Prairie Valley’s volleyball team in warmups watching Perrin, the third place team out of District 10-A.

The Lady Dogs appeared almost too confident they would be moving on from the bi-district round of the Class A volleyball playoffs. Perrin appeared calm and focused and ready to show what they could do.

It would prove to be quite a bit, as Perrin forced a five-game thriller out of Prairie Valley, the Lady Dogs finally coming through with a 20-25, 25- 15, 21-25, 25-16, 15-9 win over the Lady Pirates.
