Pirates, Lady Pirates compete at Wildcat Relays

The Perrin-Whitt Pirates and Lady Pirates traveled to Santo High School last week to compete against 13 other schools at the Wildcat Relays.

The Lady Pirates placed 10th overall at the meet on Thursday, March 12, with McKieran Murphy placing fifth in the 800 meter run and Kannan Collier finishing fifth in 300 meter hurdles.

Cowboys swept by Graford

The Bryson Cowboys played two consecutive days of action against the Graford Jackrabbits, and despite taking a loss in both games, the team showed progression.

The first game saw Bryson lose 14-3 at home, however the Cowboys were resilient when they traveled out to Graford the following day, only losing by one run 5-4.

The game at home kicked off Friday, March 13, and despite the lopsided score, the best inning for Bryson came in the first.

Ben Bennett took the mound to start the evening for the Cowboys and pitched a shutout first inning by drawing three flyouts.

Cowboys drop game against Lindsay

The Bryson Cowboys have been off to a strong start this season, ranking 2-0 after a pair of wins at the Olney tournament last week. The team would hit a roadblock though, dropping their third game of the season to the Lindsay Knights 14-5.

The Cowboys started the game trailing 3-0 but were able to keep things competitive by throwing a counter punch of two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Tigerettes dominate doubleheader against Vernon

The Jacksboro Tigerettes took to the field for a double header against the Vernon Lady Lions in what turned out to be an offensive clinic. The Tigerettes swept the Lady Lions by final scores of 16-0 in Game 1 and 20-2 in Game 2.

The team made a statement, totaling five home runs across the two games as well as 45 hits. Despite the success, Bennett said he was always tinkering with the lineup to try to maximize the team’s success rate.

Tigerettes wrap Graham, Wichita Falls tournament with 12-7 win

The Jacksboro Tigerettes traveled out to Graham and Wichita Falls for another tournament and gained valuable experience for the district run ahead. The team was also able to finish off the tournament with momentum by beating Mineral Wells 12-7.

Over the course of the three day tournament, Mineral Wells was just one team that the Tigerettes faced off against. They also took on Muenster and Burkburnett. While the games against Muenster and Burkburnett resulted in 3-6 and 1-6 losses respectively, the team stayed competitive throughout and showed their offensive ability.

Pirates end postseason run against Huckabay

The Perrin-Whitt Pirates were the final team standing in the Jack County basketball postseason, facing off against the Huckabay Indians at the regional finals in Glen Rose last week. The Pirates would end their run, however, dropping the matchup to the Indians 61-33.

Despite the loss, head coach Todd McCormick praised the team for advancing so far for the second year in a row, saying the team should hold their head high after a successful season.

Tigerettes drop district opener

The Jacksboro Tigerettes entered into district play at home for a matchup against the Holliday Lady Eagles, and though the team worked to stay in the game, the Tigerettes dropped to the Lady Eagles 14-2.

Despite this loss, the Tigerettes have remained competitive so far this season with a 7-7 record and plenty of success in tournament play over teams like Valley Mills, Rogers, Cooper and Anson.

All units of the team have shown flashes of dominance throughout the course of this season so far and the team will continue to grow as they advance further into the season.

Perrin-Whitt drops home matchup against Nocona

The Perrin-Whitt Lady Pirates played a home matchup earlier in the week against the Nocona Lady Indians and while they fought hard, they ended up losing the matchup to the Lady Indians by a final score of 17-2.

The game itself was a quick one as the Lady Pirates ended up getting mercy ruled in the match. The two scoring plays for the Lady Pirates came in the second and third innings of the game for Perrin-Whitt.

The Lady Pirates were looking to cut into the lead that Nocona had built up which was a 12 run lead at that point.

Pirates advance after regional win against May

The Perrin-Whitt Pirates entered their regional semifinal matchup with one goal in mind— advance to the regional final for the second consecutive year. The Perrin-Whitt community came out in droves for a long road trip out to Hamilton High School and went home smiling as the Pirates pulled off a 51-50 victory.

What's even more impressive is that it was one of the toughest wins the team has accomplished all season.

Pirates move up after area round win

The Perrin-Whitt Pirates went into their area round playoff matchup as the last basketball team standing in Jack County, and the team made sure to keep their postseason alive with a 51-18 victory over the Dodd City Hornets.

Besides the skill level of the Pirates being top quality, head coach Todd McCormick said that it was hard work and team camaraderie that got the Pirates this far.

“It’s a lot of hard work,” McCormick said. “The kids put in a lot of hard work everyday. They come into practice and they’re all working together, they’re all pulling for each other.”
