Perrin basketball receives postseason accolades

The Pirates and Lady Pirates received a variety of accolades from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and the Texas Girls Coaches Association recently.

From the TABC, the Pirates won the Team Free Throw Award, while Case Lambert received the Individual Free Throw Award. 
Lambert was also named Class 1A All-State by the TABC.

From the TGCA, McKieran Murphy and Callie Weddle from the Lady Pirates were named Class 1A All-State.

JHS track competes at Ponder

Jacksboro track teams continued their season at the Ponder High School Invitational with standout finishes across the board.
The track meet took place Thursday, March 26 at Ponder ISD where the Tigerettes locked down first place in the JV division and finished fifth at the varsity level. 

The varsity girls 4x100-meter relay team placed first and Emory Inman picked up a first place finish in the 400-meter dash. In field events Brooke Reaves placed first in shot put.

Cowboys ground Eagles

The Bryson Cowboys hold steady in district play after taking down the Bellevue Eagles in dominant fashion, 12-1.

Caleb Allen set the tone at the plate Tuesday, March 24 for the Cowboys, scoring the first run of the game off an inside-the-park home run to center field. 

The Cowboys collected three more runs in the first inning for a 4-0 lead over Bellevue. 

The Eagles scored their lone run of the game in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of a Cowboys’ throwing error on the field.

Cowboys finish first at Bryson Relays

Bryson track teams kept good pace at the Bryson Relays, with the Cowboys finishing in first place while the Cowgirls placed third overall.

Competing with five other schools Monday, March 23, individual scores for the Cowboys drew several first place finishes, including Drew Epperson in the 100-meter dash, Ty McComack in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter dash, Kevin Martin in 100-meter hurdles, Wiett Newton in the high jump and Tyler Isbell in the long jump.

The boys 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams also placed first at the meet.

Tigers send Bowie home empty

Jacksboro sent the Bowie Jackrabbits home empty-handed after the Tigers’ pitching staff threw for a combined no-hit shutout, 2-0. 

The win Friday, March 20 followed a 9-1 win against Bowie last Tuesday, moving the Tigers to 4-0 in the district.

The game was tied at zero until the bottom of the third inning when Hoytt Wesson doubled on a line drive to center field then advanced to third off the bat of Wyatt Gavit. 

With Padun Seaberry at bat, Wesson scored on a passed ball to get on the scoreboard 1-0.

Tigerette bats hot against Bowie

Bats were hot as the Jacksboro Tigerettes made quick work of the Bowie Lady Rabbits, sealing the victory 9-1 and bringing the team to 4-2 in district play.

The Tigerettes got on the scoreboard early Saturday, March 21, filing away six runs in the second inning alone.

Bella Nail tallied three RBIs while Emory Inman and Savanah Hearn each picked up two. Holly Lehman and Rylee Bennett recorded one RBI apiece.

Brooke Reaves led off on the pitcher’s mound for the Tigerettes, striking out two batters while walking two more over two innings.

Tigerettes set new school record

Jacksboro’s High School Invitational track meet drew 15 schools together to compete in track and field events at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigerettes’ 4x100-meter relay team of Emory Inman, Holly Lehman, Presleigh Phillips and Lainee Sams finished their event in fifth place Thursday, March 19, setting a new school record with a time of 50.81.

Individually, Inman finished second in the 100-meter dash, and Brooke Reaves placed first in shot put while Jacki Ramos came in at second place.

The Tigerettes placed fourth overall at the meet.

Cowboys dominate Dragons

After taking two losses to the Graford Rabbits, the Bryson Cowboys got back on track with a win over the Chico Dragons in a dominant display, 19-1.

“It feels good,” head coach Justin Ramirez said. “We needed that coming into this week from the weekend. It feels good to get back on the winning side.”

The bulk of the Cowboys’ offensive firepower struck in the first three innings of play where the team scored five runs in each frame.

Tigerettes best Bowie

The Jacksboro Tigerettes have been on a roll recently, picking up a four-game win streak after their latest win against Bowie’s Lady Rabbits in a 10-4 victory.

“It’s been awesome,” head coach John Bennett said. “We’ve only had about four practices. Seeing them getting into the swing of things is good. We're on that upward climb right now. Hopefully we’ll be set for the playoffs.”

The Tigerettes struck first in the top of the first inning when Brooke Reaves drilled a line drive double to center field, scoring Holly Lehman and putting the Tigerettes up 1-0.

Bryson track competes at Santo meet

The Bryson Cowboys and Cowgirls continued their track seasons last week with a trip to Santo, competing against 13 other schools in the Wildcat Relays.

At the meet Thursday, March 12, the boys’ varsity team placed seventh overall with individual Ty McComack ranking ninth with 16.5 points.

The Cowgirls’ varsity team finished in fourth place with individuals Jaydah McComack tying for first with 30 points alongside Gorman athlete Delila Crain, and Jossy Whitfill ranking fifth for Bryson with 23 points.
