Jacksboro locked horns with Clyde’s baseball team in the area round of the Class 3A playoffs, the Tigers coming out with the series win. The Tigers will now face Lamesa.
Each week, the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette will recognize one athlete from each Jack County school as the Herald’s Athletes of the Week. The Herald’s Athletes of the Week are Noah Morris of Perrin, Brody Roberts of Jacksboro, and Caleb Allen of Bryson.
Jacksboro’s softball team moved another step further down the playoff road last week with a 12-2, 7-0 sweep of Muleshoe in the Region I-3A semifinals. The Tigerettes will face Coahoma in the regional finals later this week.
Needing three games to do it, the Tigerettes defeated Wall in the Class 3A area round winning the opener 176, losing 6-5 in game 2, in 11 innings and winning 10-5 in game 3. The squad will play Thursday and Friday at Clyde High School in the regional semifinals.
Each week, the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette will choose one athlete from each school to be its athletes of the week. This week, the athletes are Case Lambert of Perrin, Starr Wesson of Jacksboro and Evan Ford of Bryson.
Jacksboro continued a solid baseball season, opening the playoffs with a sweep of Millsap in the bi-district round of the playoffs, 10-0 in five innings and 10-0 in six innings. The Tigers, now 204, will face Clyde in the area round this week.
Jack County athletes had a solid showing at the state track and field meet last weekend. Jacksboro’s Jaxson Hubble won the wheelchair shot put with a throw of 26’10 ½”, more than 10 inches better than second place and more than 5’ further than third place.
Brian Smith Pennington and his fellow Bryson seniors are realizing this will be the last season they’ll be together and they want to make the most of it. “We have six seniors on this team and we all feel like if this is our last time, let’s make it a success and so far it has been,” he said.

Jack County will be well represented at the 2025 UIL Track & Field State Meet beginning Thursday, May 1. Jacksboro will have seniors Eric Pizana compete in the 300-meter hurdles and Jaxson Hubble in the seated shotput.
