Bryson sweeps Perrin off ship

PERRIN – Beating a rival is always tough, particularly at their place.

Bryson’s volleyballers have had difficulties playing in Perrin’s gym the last several years, managing to come out with a win but always getting a battle from the Lady Pirates. Saturday was no different, as the Cowgirls held tough and withstood the storm in a 25-18, 25-21, 25-17 win over Perrin.

Perrin Pirates hold off Knights for Homecoming victory

The old saying  is “defense wins championships,” and while this may not have been a championship, defense was the key factor in Perrin’s 40-34 win over Wichita Falls Notre Dame.

Perrin’s defense started the game strong by holding Notre Dame to a three-and-out on its first possession. However, on the Pirate’s first offensive snap, the ball sailed over quarterback Raul Martinez’s head and through the back of the end zone for a Perrin safety.

Bryson boys hounded by Knox City

BRYSON – Knox City must love playing Jack County schools.
Earlier in non-district play, the Greyhounds took a 76-27 win over Perrin. Friday night, Knox City held Bryson to just 189 total yards and needed just a half to post a 55-6 win over the host Cowboys.
Bryson goes to 3-2 with the setback, ended by the 45-point mercy rule. Knox City led 23-0 at the quarter and outscored the hosts 32-6 in the second.

Jacksboro gives Eastland a tough battle, falls 39-22

EASTLAND – Jacksboro knows a few things about battles.

The Tigers are known to give teams a fight, even when taking a loss the last few years. Unbeaten Eastland, which was ranked in some Class 3A Division 1 top-10 polls, had been putting some serious points on the board this year. They were a heavy favorite over the 2-2 Tigers Friday evening.

Local high schools run at Poolville meet

All three local high schools ran Wednesday afternoon at the Poolville “Battle of the Back 40” meet, with varying degrees of success.
The course was a tough one according to both Jacksboro coach Steve Hooten and Perrin coach Lloyd Tucker. The course included a tough back 40, which the varsity boys had to run twice and all other groups had to run once.

Tigerettes get first 7-3A victory

PARADISE – Walls are tough to get around. Sometimes you just need to go through them. With several new varsity players this year, Jacksboro has needed some time to fight through its mental blocks that can come with a young team.

After taking the first two sets over Paradise on Sept. 23, the Tigerettes encountered one of those mental walls. The hostesses fought back into the match by forcing a decisive fifth set. In that set, Jacksboro took a slight lead midway through and hung on for a 25-18, 25-21, 13-25, 16-25, 15-13 win at Panther Gym.
