Bryson loses pair of games

Bryson's boys' basketball team lost a pair of games to Perrin and Chico last week.

The Cowboys suffered a 51-32 non-district loss to the Pirates. Perrin led 17-12 at the half and 34-20 at the half. Perrin extended its lead by virtue of an 11-6 third quarter for a 45-26 lead heading into the fourth.

Jon Alaniz led the way for Bryson with 16 points. Braden Houser and Tristan Stephens each had six points with Paul Davidson and Jacob Jonas each tossing in two.

Boys 3rd in Archer City

ARCHER CITY – Jacksboro’s boys' basketball team went 3-2 in a tournament here Dec. 8-10, good enough for a third-place finish among the eight teams.

The squad is now 7-6 heading into a Tuesday night matchup in Millsap (see story, same section). A breakdown of all five games follows:

Archer City 61, Jacksboro 44

Tigerettes 2nd in AC

ARCHER CITY – Jacksboro’s girls' basketball squad finished the Archer City Tournament in second place and took a 10-4 record into Tuesday night’s district opener in Henrietta.

The girls opened tournament play here with a 62-26 win over Olney Thursday morning.

The Tigerettes got out to a 15-6 lead after one with guard Trinity Tisdale tossing in six points. Things got even better for the Purple in the second, outscoring the Cubs 23-4. Tisdale had another strong frame with eight points with fellow sophomore Jordan Nichols contributing six points. 

Bryson goes 1-3 for week

PERRIN ­­‑ Bryson’s varsity basketball squad finished 1-2 during the Perrin Basketball Tournament putting its record at 1-5 for the season.

The Cowboys lost their opening game Dec. 1 with Bethesda Christian 49-48. Bryson led 14-10 after one and 27-24 at the half. The ‘Pokes then took a 40-34 advantage into the final frame but it wasn’t enough.

Paul Davidson led the way offensively for Bryson with 17 points while junior teammate Braden Houser tossed in 10. Tristan Stephens had nine, Jon Alaniz added six, Paxton Whitaker four and Jacob Smith two.

Tigerettes open AC Tourney with win

ARCHER CITY – Jacksboro’s girls' basketball squad opened tournament play here with a 62-26 win over Olney Thursday morning.

The Tigerettes (7-3) got out to a 15-6 lead after one with guard Trinity Tisdale tossing in six points. Things got even better for the Purple in the second in the second, outscoring the Cubs 23-4. Tisdale had another strong frame with eight points with fellow sophomore Jordan Nichols contributing six points. 

The Tigerettes outscored Olney 14-6 in the third with each team tossing in 10 points in the fourth. 

JMS boys, girls face Bowie, Boyd

BOWIE ­— Jacksboro Middle School’s 8th-grade boys hoopsters played district games with Bowie and the ‘A’ team attended a tournament with Bowie.

Against the Jackrabbits, the ‘B’ team suffered a 28-14 setback, the Tigers down 18-12 at the half and able to do little offensively in the second 15 minutes.

Trey Laake led the way with eight points with Randall Hamilton, Josh O’Shields, and Caiden Vasquez each scoring two points. Hamilton and Vasquez led the way in rebounding with Laake and O’Shields doing the way defensively.

JMS 7 girls hoopsters compete

Jacksboro Middle School’s 7th grade girls basketball squads split with visiting Bowie during the Tigerettes’ home opener Nov, 28.

The ‘A’  posted a 25-12 victory. Bowie led 6-2 after one but a 9-0 Tigerette run in the second gave the Purple an 11-6 lead. Jacksboro then outscored the Lady Rabbits 8-4 in the third and 6-2 in the fourth to take the win.

Teagan Reynolds and Traci Berend each had six points to pace the Purple.

Boys take sting out of Era

Sometimes all it takes is a little spark to get your mojo back.

Jacksboro found itself down 10-7 after one quarter to visiting Era Tuesday night, the Tigers going nearly six minutes without a bucket in the frame. Sophomore Ke’Ondrae Sadler provided just that, getting a basket and free throws in the opening seconds of the second to give the Tigers the lead. Sadler then ignited a 12-0 string with another bucket to effectively put the Purple in control of what ended a 51-32 victory.

Tigers finish 6th in tourney

The Tiger boys finish 6th in their tournament over the weekend. A summary of games follows:

Jacksboro 62, Godley 44

The Tigers used strong starts and finishes to take their 2nd straight win of the season.

Jacksboro outscored Godley 17-7 in the first frame, paced by eight Tyler Rogers points, including a pair of threes. The squads then locked into a defensive struggle scoring 10 points each in both the second and third quarters to lead 37-27 heading into the final eight minutes.
