The year 2016 gone by ...

The year 2016 has been exciting on many levels for Jack County athletes with several of them tasting the playoffs for the first time after a less than spectacular 2015.

These are the top 10 events, in random order, for county athletes as determined by the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette sports department.

JHS freshman qualifies for National Junior Rodeo Finals

Mika Shackelford qualified for the event, held annually in Las Vegas, in the barrel racing portion. People throughout the county supported her by funding her trip through a GoFundMe page and also bake sales. 

Shackelford and her family headed out to Vegas earlier this month. In her first time in the Finals, she wound up finishing in the Top 10 nationally.
