On top of the world

Wed, 07/15/2020 - 5:00 am

It only took a few months but it seems like the pros are getting back to their seasons.

Many are still dealing with COVID-19 even without fans as several players are reporting being positive with the virus. Dallas’ MLS soccer team, FC Dallas, has been pulled from the tournament because 10 of their players have come down with it.

The Rangers and Cowboys have had players come down with that as their seasons are getting ready to begin. Best of luck to all the Texas teams.

When the surveys started coming out for Texas Football, I doubt if anyone thought they would be dealing with a team that might look significantly different than the one they filled out the survey for.

While a small number of kids have actually come down with the virus, it is causing organizations around the nation to rethink having football in its normal season.

Some states, including my home state of Michigan, are considering moving the sport to this Spring. The big question then becomes what to do with Spring Sports.

The thinking is that in larger schools it won’t matter much at all. At the smaller schools, like those in Jack County, kids may have to decide what sports they want to play.

It’s a tough decision that I hope the kids won’t end up having to make. Still, there are a lot of decisions to make in the next several weeks by the UIL. Face masks and shields must be worn while not practicing or exercising during summer practices which were back open Monday.

The talk has been about football but what about volleyball this Fall. There’s a fair amount of physical contact with teammates in that sport as well. If they move one, are they going to move the other?

Cross country isn’t so much of a concern. Matter of fact, the further you can social distance there the better.

I just want to get back to normal Tuesdays and Fridays where Brian is somewhere in a gym or on a field watching children do battle.I had that last Tuesday night when our summer league teams hosted Bowie. It was great to enjoy the thrill of competition again.

Camera worked, notebook in hand, new hat and chair. I was on top of the world.

I want to stay there.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.

See y’all down the road.
