Tigers, Tigerettes sweep at home

Fri, 12/16/2016 - 9:20 pm

Jacksboro's varsity basketballers took a clean sweep of visiting Bellevue and Wichita Falls City View Friday evening.

The boys posted a 74-46 win over the visiting Eagles to go to 8-7 overall heading into Tuesday night's District 8-3A opener vs. Holliday. Coach Eric Symank says he feels his squad is ready if they can remain healthy.
The Tigers had their best offensive show of the season, scoring 74 points. The squad moved the ball well n the coach's eyes all afternoon. Jacksboro broke a 7-all tie in the first with an 8-0 run and coasted from there to lead 22-12 at the quarter and 46-23 at the half.
Four Tigers reached double figures led by senior Tyler Rogers with 20 points. Clay Botello had 19. Weston Bowen contributed 13 points and Payton Laake 10.
The girls had an equally quick start against City View and posted a 56-19 win. Jacksboro is 12-4 and 2-0 while City View drops to 0-2 in the loop.
Jacksboro led 9-0 two minutes into the fray and never looked back. Second-year Mentor Todd Matlock saw some things that need to be improved on.
"We ran into a bit of a lull offensively and we need to quit doing that," Matlock said. "Defensively we played very well but we didn't look as crisp offensively as we need to."
With a tough Holliday team coming to town Tuesday evening, Matlock said some adjustments will need to be made.
"Holliday has some quick guards and a post that runs the floor real well," Matlock said. We need to make sure they stay in front of us and not gamble defensively like we do sometimes. If we play solid 'D', we'll be fine."
Three Tigerettes led the way with double-figure games, led by junior Haley Laake with 16 points. Classmate Jaymee Yount contributed 12 and Trinity Tisdale 10.
Beginning Tuesday, and for the rest of the district campaign, varsity girls will tip off at 6 with the varsity boys to follow around 7:30 p.m.
