Tigers 'light the V' and remain unbeaten

Fri, 09/09/2016 - 11:36 pm

Jacksboro had a triumphant return home Friday evening, allowing just six points and 182 yards total offense in a 21-6 win over Paradise.

Jacksboro is now 3-0 with the visiting Panthers falling to 1-2.

The Tigers picked up all the points they’d need to start the game, marching 69 yards in 12 plays, capped off by a five-yard Hunter Jackson run. The junior bounced off a number of would-be tacklers before finding paydirt. Santiago Salazar’s extra point gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead.

The Tiger defense, which had been allowing 10 points a game, forced a first-half turnover on Clay Botello’s fumble recovery. It was one of four first-half fumbles by the Panthers. Jacksboro allowed two first downs and 10 total yards in the first half.

The recovery would pay dividends on the next play from scrimmage as Kade Weldon found a wide open Jackson in the flat and Jackson did the rest to complete the 61-yard pass play for a 14-0 lead with 7:41 left in the half.

The Tigers came within inches of scoring again as time expired in the half but a Jackson run fell short.

Paradise scored on a pair of short field goals in the third quarter but Jacksboro retook the lead early in the fourth on Michael Harp’s seven-yard run. The Tiger defense then got a huge sack on fourth down from Olney transfer Riley Rollans in the final minutes to snuff out any comeback threats.

Jacksboro gets next week off, returning to action Sept. 23 at Bowie.
