Jacksboro opens playoffs with S&S Consolidated Friday

If one 100-yard rusher is good then two are better.

In a district championship battle worthy of the term, Jacksboro took a 14-3 halftime lead and made it stick until midway through the fourth quarter when a long Justin Jones run put him over the 100-yard mark for the game and lifted the Eagles to a 25-21 victory.

Both teams are now 9-1 but with the win, Holliday goes into the postseason as the top seed out of District 5-3A Division II with the Tigers dropping down to No. 2. Jacksboro will face S&S Consolidated Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Ponder.

As expected this game was won on the ground with Tiger senior Hunter Hackley rushing for 111 yards, 13 coming on a third-quarter scoring run to end the scoring for the Purple. Hunter Jackson had 41 yards on 10 totes, including a 7-yard scoring jaunt to open the scoring midway through the first quarter.

Holliday had two 100-yard rushers in Tristin Boyd, who rushed for 119 yards and a score. Jones, who rushed for 109 steps, had a 47-yard run with 4:06 to go to give the Eagles their first lead of the game. Holliday then came through with the big defensive stop on fourth down late in the game to seal the deal.

Jacksboro had one passing reception with Dalton Harp hauling in a 22-yard pass.

Senior Luke Dixon had a 19-yard scoring jaunt with 23 seconds left in the half to put the Tigers up 14-3 at the half. Scoring runs by Boyd and Kade Patterson sandwiched around Hackley’s scoring run cut the deficit to 21-18 entering the fourth quarter.
