Tigers fall to Holliday

Fri, 11/04/2016 - 11:29 pm
Jacksboro to face Gunter in the first round of the playoffs

Jacksboro outgained Holliday 258-125 but the visiting Eagles took advantage of two interceptions and 100 yards in second-half penalties by the Tigers to get out of Tiger Stadium with a 21-14 win.

Jacksboro ends the regular season at 2-3 in District 8-3A and 6-4 overall, finishing fourth in the loop. Jacksboro will face another set of Tigers in Gunter, which went unbeaten through District 6-3A, in the bi-district round next week. Game details were not set as of this writing.

The Tigers took advantage of a short punt for their first score, marching 12 yards in five plays, capped by Michael Harp’s 3-yard run with less than five minutes gone. Holliday came back with a 13-yard, seven play drive of its own following an interception with Kyle Bowman scoring from two yards out on the first play of the second quarter.

Jacksboro later marched 56 yards to paydirt with Hunter Hackley, who rushed for a season-high 187 yards, scoring from two yards out for a 14-7 lead with 4:08 left in the half.

Holliday took advantage of another turnover right before intermission with Jett Johnson scoring from six yards out to knot the game at 14.

The teams traded punts for most of the second half before Holliday went on its lone sustained drive of the evening. Jacksboro looked to have stopped theEagles on fourth down with 3:10 left. A pass interference penalty, however, kept Holliday’s drive alive.

Two plays later, Johnson scored from three yards out for the visitors’ first lead of the evening. Jacksboro got into Eagle territory on its final drive but turned the ball over on downs and Holliday ran out the clock.
