Tigerettes split to open distdrict

Thu, 09/14/2017 - 1:20 pm

When you’re young and trying to get better, even baby steps can seem huge.

Henrietta had been somewhat of a juggernaut for Jacksboro’s varsity volleyballers in recent years, the Lady ‘Cats running through the Purple in straight sets with nary a thought in the process. Trying to right the ship in its District 8-3A opener Saturday, Jacksboro gave a gutty performance, winning the opener of the match 25-20 before losing the last three games 15-25, 20-25, 21-25.

The Tigerettes hit the floor coming off three straight solid practices last week and appeared raring to go. Thanks to single points from Leah Plaster and Carly Hart, the Tigerettes jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the opener. Audrey Gallagher, who was a frontcourt force all day, displayed her serving skills with three straight for a 7-5 Henrietta lead.

Jacksboro broke serve and began to pull away as Morgyn Green came through with five straight tallies, aided by a Trinity Tisdale kill, for an 11-7 lead. Alex Holman’s block gave Tisdale a chance to display her serving chops with a six-point skein to put the Tigerettes up 18-8. Tisdale got some frontcourt help from a Jordan Pruitt block and kill.

After a Plaster kill broke serve, Holman’s pair of tallies extended the lead to 21-10. The visitors would get within 20-24 after a trio of April Elliott points but a block from Tisdale and Carli Smith gave the Purple the game one win.
