Tigerettes in 8-3A hunt
Freshmen have been mocked as the low man on the high school totem pole for centuries. Tuesday night, a pair of Jacksboro freshman volleyball players gave reason to rethink that philosophy.
With the Tigerettes in the thick of the District 8-3A race and the squad locked into another battle with Paradise, freshman Alex Holman used a long serving run to allow Jacksboro to pull away in game two. After the Lady Panthers came back to force a game five, neophyte Jordan Pruitt broke a 10-all tie with the final five tallies in a thrilling 25-21, 25-15, 20-25, 19-25, 15-10 win over the visitors.
With Nocona’s three-game loss to Holliday Tuesday night, Jacksboro and the Lady Indians are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot at 5-5 with four matches left. Jacksboro travels to both Holliday and Nocona over the next week.
Jacksboro had its hands full with the visitors (2-8 in district) throughout the 1:42 affair. In game one, Jacksboro fell behind 16-20 but broke serve and got a seven-point string from junior Carly Hart to set up game point for the Purple. Paradise broke serve but the Tigerettes used a Pruitt block to take the opener.
