Softball team splits six in Henrietta

Thu, 03/02/2017 - 11:51 am

HENRIETTA –  Jacksboro’s varsity softballers managed a six-game split during a tournament last weekend.

Thursday, the girls opened with a 13-4 loss to Class 4A Vernon before rebounding with a 6-4 win over Seymour. The winning continued Friday with an 8-5 win over Iowa Park before ending the day with a 4-2 loss to Haskell.

Things went much the same Saturday with the Tigerettes garnering another split. In the opener, Jacksboro let a 6-3 lead slip away vs. state ranked Windthorst in a 7-6 setback.

Windthorst jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead but Jacksboro used a two-out rally to knot the game. Maylan Armstrong stroked a single and scored as pitcher Hanah Drennan aided her cause with a double.

Windthorst plated two more runs in the second which set the stage for a five-run Tigerette second, opening with a Destiny Thompson single. Thompson was thrown out at second.

Leah Plaster’s double, a walk to Carly Hart and an error put the pair in scoring position. A passed ball and Alexia Rushin’s double knotted the game at 3.

Frie and Rushin broke the tie on Trinity Tisdale ‘s double with Tisdale scoring on senior Baylee Anderson’s single for a 6-3 lead. Armstrong had her second single in as many innings and advanced to second but the pair were stranded.
