Perrin tracksters head to State

Thu, 05/12/2016 - 1:06 pm

PERRIN — Zach Tucker and Derek Ray will be gunning for a State Track title later this week.

Tucker, a junior, will be competing in the 1,600-meter run after winning the event at the Region III-A Meet two weeks ago in Stephenville, breaking his old mark by about 12 seconds in the process. He still has about “four or five” seconds to go before breaking the school record in the event but after having such a strong showing in regionals, anything is possible.

Ray, a senior, qualified in both the 110-and-300-meter hurdle events, winning the former and finishing 2nd in the latter at Regionals. Ray contends liking the 110s, and particularly lane 4, better.

Right now, Ray is ranked 7th and 8th in the two events based on times with Tucker ranked 8th. The pair knows they will have to work hard to get onto the medal stand at State.
