Pee Wee squad wins Top of Texas title

Thu, 11/09/2017 - 12:49 pm

Jacksboro’s Pee Wee football team was two minutes away from losing to Henrietta for the second time this season Saturday, this time being in the Top of Texas Championship.

On its homefield, however, the Tigers were able to take advantage of a Cub mistake to force overtime. In the second extra session, the hosts got a touchdown and used another critical Cub mistake and solid defense down the stretch in a 14-8 victory at Tiger Stadium.

Both teams end the year at 9-1, each beating the other for the lone setback of the season.

Henrietta had held an 8-0 lead since midway through the second quarter; the Cub defense bending but not breaking. Cracks in the armor began to show midway through the fourth quarter with penalties and a short 10-yard punt giving the Tigers the ball at the Henrietta 21 with 1:56 to go in regulation.
